Hey, everybody! So I have this ache to get one of these two games, but I'm having a really hard time deciding which one. Each one has its pros and cons and any of them would make for an AWESOME game so I need you guys to tell me, according to your experience with each game, which one you'd choose. I downloaded both demos and both caught my attention (Enslaved too, that game is promising), so that's that...

VANQUISH
Pros: fast-paced action. New franchise. Shinji Mikami. Good replay value.
Cons: short. No story or memorable characters.

CASTLEVANIA
Pros: long game. It'll eventually have a sequel. Patrick motherfucking Stewart. Nice story.
Cons: not so hot platforming. Gets boring on the long run.

Take into account that these pros and cons come from several reviews online so I'm not sure how accurate they are.

Thanks, people!

=D Get Bayonetta instead!

If it has to be one of the two, get whichever one's genre you lean toward most. If you like hacky-slashy fun (like me!), get CV:LoS. If you like super fastpaced over-the-top action games (like me!), get Vanquish. Honestly though? Bayonetta is both =] (Except you can't... Oh wait, yes you can shoot! xD)

Vanquish, without a doubt. It's better in almost every way.
Such as...? I mean, someone could say "Castlevania's voice acting is far superior", so could you name a couple of reasons you say Vanquish is superior?

Already have it, already played it, already loved its over-the-top weird-ass action. It was SO MUCH FUN!!

The gameplay in Vanquish is frantic and over-the-top, plus the art and level design is utterly fantastic.

Did you play any of the God of War games? Yes? Then you've already played Castlevania:LOS.
I played God of War I, II and III, and Castlevania DOES look similar, gameplay-wise. But how is that a bad thing? I mean, GoW is awesome, so if Castlevania is anything like it, it's probably awesome as well, right?

Vanquish. Support the new IP.

It's hella fun to boot. Crazy over the top action, and high replay value.

Beat it 4 times. Haven't really touch any other games. And if you want a challenge...God Hard makes you it *****. As do the Challenges you can unlock.

And in "stuffed with so much filler that it will make your head spin".

The platforming is so slow...and doesn't offer platforming shortcuts, even once you have the double jump and sprint jump combo.

Not really, it's very boring if you've played God of War III.

Just get New Vegas and let yourself be consumed by the Mojave Wasteland.

I find the length of Castlevania more appealing than Vanquish's 5 hour campaign. Just get New Vegas though. More bang for your buck.
Literally, since your game will probably explode with so many bugs it will go BANG!

OT: I was wondering the same as you. I saw a video of Vanquish, and as awesome as it looks, at the same time it looks like so much shit is going on at once. As for Castlevania, it looks awesome, but Twilight kind of ruined the whole Vampire/werewolf thing for me, and there is just no more appeal for them.

As a guy earlier said, it depends on whichever is your forte. The Gears of War-like gameplay, or the God of War-like gameplay.

EDIT: In my opinion, I say get either Enslaved or Demon's Souls. Enslaved for the wonderful voice acting and graphics. Pretty meh story and real fun platforming. But the main reason? Andy Serkis!! :DDD (Who is Golem from LotR, and did King Kong xD)

And Demon's Souls for the hard as balls challenge, and slightly fun gameplay. Shit character creation, though.

Take my view with a grain of salt, considering I've only played the demo of Vanquish, which was blasphemously fun, though I own Lords of Shadow and have played through it in its entirety.

I can't recommend one over the other. They're radically different games. What would you prefer, a good action game with a compelling story and Patrick Sexgod Stewart, or Gears of War on crack as presented by the developers of Bayonetta?

It's "decent". But it's never anything better than a knockoff.

If you want a good Castlevania game, this isn't it. If you want a good game and couldn't care less about the brand, then you might enjoy this.

I don't give two shits about the japanese names associated with the games, but Lords of Shadow is an awesome, awesome game, in every sense of the word. Beautiful visuals, fun combat, challenging puzzles, amazing voice cast, great length, haunting soundtrack... it's just superior to Vanquish in every way.

Vanquish (I only played the demo):
Good:Awesome gameplay
Cool story
Bad: only 6 hours

Castlevania (I own it):
Good: Equally awesome although very different gameplay
Amazing story
Patrick Stewart
I personally liked its take on hack n slash better than GOW3
Really long
Bad: It gets REALLY REALLY long if you're halfway through and the save file decides to randomly delete itself. This has happened to a number of people including me. There will be a patch, but no one knows when it will be

I would give you an Internet if I had one. I'm thinking of just starving to death but buying both games, dammit...

Um... that sounded so f***ed up that I had to see if it was literally like you said. And it is, it just deletes the save!!! WTF?!?!?!

Anyways... um.... yeah, I'm not getting Castlevania until I see Konami fixing this thing. It has got to be one of the most not-funny things to ever happen to anyone.
