[Over the past (probably) 6 years] Every time I go through a slow faze with gaming, I seem to find myself falling back into one of the thousands of servers this game seem to has. To me it always seemed like a cult MMORPG that everyone knew - but then I started asking people I knew on a face to face basis and not finding but a few who had ever touched it.

What about you ladies and gents? Heard of it? played it? like it?

One of the games where a private server is much better than the official ones.

I've spent a loooong time with that game. Except for Guild Wars, it was my first true MMO.

It's just too hard for the spoiled generation of WoW.

I played it for a bit. I could not get into it. The game seemed good after the grinding but there were no grinding milestones or anything you could do with each little step instead the game only realy started when you get to a certain level which i do not like. I have not played an MMO since.

I don't think there's such a thing as a hard MMO. RO might be a bigger timesink but is that really something to brag about?

Korean tripe is all that can be said about it, really. Even they've done better (See: Granado Espada, Lineage II, hell...even Maple Story).

I enjoyed RO from time to time, but a lot of those private servers are kind of lame when you get to the 'end game' and realize that the server owner and friends have characters with ridiculous items you can never attain and millions of health points (perhaps billions... or more!)

I played some iRO, but thats mostly an exercise in extreme boredom, sometimes killing the same monsters for weeks.

Well. I can honestly say that RO is harder than WoW.

Especially the latest bosses they have added - Ifrit, Valkyrie Randgris, Gloom Under Night and of course, Satan Morroc. Beelzebub is also pretty 1337... I mean, 666.

That's why you don't play on super high rates.

Also, billions is impossible. 999 is the max level possible, and even then the most you can get is about 5mln.

RO was the first MMO i payed to play. It was fun for a short while, but I just couldn't get into it enough to sink the time necessary.

Never played it, but I've heard of it and a friend of mine used to play it.

He liked it a lot, since it didn't cater to terrible players like every MMO today.

I used to play it on a private server. I never really got that into it because I dislike grinding and repetition.

The best thing about it is the player interaction though.I especially liked going to War of Emperium and defending our Guilds Castle.

First of all, you quoted me wrong and I'm not fixing it on principle...

Secondly, its their private server, they spawn items you can never possibly get. I dont know if you understand what I meant, I'm not talking about high rate servers where people play legitimately for much longer than you, I mean people who literally spawn items you can never get, or add + 10 and 4 slots to items instantly by abusing their power over the server. Its a big difference, and imo cheating... way to try to show me up with your l33t knowledge and completely miss my point.

I agree that it's a cult classic. I also don't enjoy it.

A cult classic is something with a small-but-dedicated following over a long period of time. Ragnorok Online definitely fits the bill. My ex-girlfriend was part of that following, and tried to get me into it, and, well, I just didn't like it. It was too aesthetically wierd and inconveniently put together.

Also, after three hours of playing, I couldn't see how in any way it was related to Ragnarok.

Well i'm just glad that people have it heard of it. I definitely understand the argument over repetition and time-sink which is why I usually played RO servers that were 10x rates or so on.

Your wording was poor. You didn't mention those items are cheated.

Oh, and you probably shouldn't play on such servers. Same why you shouldn't play on TF2 servers where they allow premium members to cheat (higher damage, instant criticals, Scouts can double-jump as many times as they want and so forth).

I did say 'items you can never attain'... I think it was you who misunderstood :p

I know I shouldnt play on such servers, I dont want to... I'm saying that it usually takes me until end game to realize such a thing is going on, and thats frustrating as hell. I'm saying I dislike those servers!

Personally I enjoy Ragnarok Online. It was one of the first MMO's I ever played (back when I was into the whole anime business) and fell in love. I still can't figure out what it is that draws me to it. The colorful 2D sprites, the generous array of different themed music, or whatever.

When I'm bored I'll immerse myself in it for a few hours with some friends.

Ragnarok was the one responsible for the MMO boom here in the Philippines (it was a mere spark at first, a huge experiment. Several months later, BOOM!). It's also prolly the reason why Western MMO's (like WoW) aren't huge here.
