Congratulations, you found another Rebecca Black video. Here, have some attention.

My thoughts are that this is a viral marketing ploy for a new film and we should leave it alone already.

EDIT: Ok i take this back, just read elsewhere that the source of this article may actually be fake.

Anyone have anything else on this? Is Rebecca Black fake? Is there any hope for humanity?

Oh so bullshiiiiiiit!!!!!

The writers of the song just realised: Oh fuck, our song was complete and utterly shallow shit. Oh, I know! Let's get the girl who sung it to clutch at the barest of threads to make it seem like a very deep and meaningful set of statements that hide behind the shallow simplicity as an ironic statement!

Not working, guys.

EDIT:

Oh wait, it's CLEARLY fake. I feel stupid now.

I thought it was entertaining and that it was nice to see she had a sense of humour about the criticisms she got, because there were a fuckton of them. And a quick PROTIP people, in case some of the above posts are serious: the video above is an obvious joke. Why do you think it was made by Funny or Die?

I also find it amusing how this whole phenomenon won't die, but don't really care all that much. People like to bash on Beiber and all that but if I got worked up over every shit pop song or band that got popular, I'd have died of a heart attack years ago.

It crossed my mind once or twice that this might be a gimmick for something bigger, but I too cannot find anything on this supposed "film" so I think that article is probably full of it. Besides, the video was popularized by the show Tosh.0 so they would have been in on it from the start. They'd also have to come out with the announcement soon, lest the popularity die down and people move on to other stupid Internet phenomena.

EDIT: OP, you might want to put a disclaimer in that says where that video originated, because it seems that a lot of people aren't getting it.

What a lame idea for a thread.

We all know Darth Vader has the only important version of this song tucked next to his light saber. Why bother discussing anything else?

OP: This isn't the first thread about this anomaly. It is though the first time I heard the word consumerism without it being in a puchline.

Okay, even if that was the intention of the writers, if no one got that this was the point to the song (which I'm willing to bet no one did) it's still a bad song. You can say whatever hidden meaning you like, but if the only reason people get it is because you told it to them then you haven't done your job properly.

I remember a quote from Yatzee, which I'm paraphrasing, but it's basically "It's like when you tell a joke, and no one laughs. When you explain people might go "oh that's funny" but no one is going to laugh because you didn't tell the joke properly".

Still I call bullshit on this: it's just some ***** who can't handle criticism to her work so he resorts to calling everyone a moron who "just didn't get it". I see it all the time with fanfictions, and it's sad to see it here.

If it is fake, it doesn't feel like it's fake. She doesn't sound very light-hearted or joking about it; her tone comes across as serious to me.

Yeah.

That is what makes it funny though. If she didn't sound serious the whole premise of that video would fail...

That was hilarious... Attempting to give that song any meaning what so ever.

She's obviously mocking her the song. I can almost respect that.

Which seat to sit in when riding to school equals to Iraq and Afghanistan.

*Rubs beard* I'm confused, are they trying to troll or not?

Yeah, but this makes it worse in my opinion. It's basically like she's coming out and saying "Yeah I knew it was shit as well so that makes it okay". It comes across as if she is saying "So you didn't like my song? Well I'm going to mock my own work so you give me more attention".

My problem is she clearly doesn't believe the song is bad. If she did, she probably wouldn't have done it in the first place. No way did she look at the song and go "This is shit. No one is going to like this. Let's do it". She probably thought "OH MY GOD This song is going to be AWESOME!!!" and now that everyone is bagging it she's trying to jump on board with like "Oh I totally agree guys. It's not my fault; I knew it was stupid".

Fair enough I suppose, but the video is meant to parody all those vapid artists and music critics that read all kinds of stuff into nothing (also see The Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tale_of_Scrotie_McBoogerballs]). If she wasn't acting seriously, the video would make no sense and wouldn't be amusing.

And how do you know what she thinks? Can you read her mind? Obviously she didn't think the song was that bad upon its release, but she saw the criticism and rolled with it, as evidenced by the video above. I think it is funny and shows she has a good sense of humour about the whole ordeal. I mean, what would you prefer, that she go pout in the corner because the song has been universally panned, like a proper diva? She's only thirteen for fuck sake. Give her some credit for being a good sport, you know?

Anyway, it is just some shitty pop song. They've been around for as long as popular music has existed and will keep going long after you or I cease to be. Sometimes I am astounded at how much hate these kid singers receive, when really, indifference is all that is needed.

And here I am defending Rebbecca Black. Never thought I'd see the day.

Agreed. That song has traumatised me and nothing can make up for that. Ready the torches and pitchforks people.
