I've been to the theaters lately and saw what I considered to be an awesome work of cinematography; Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

However, I've been hearing lots of negative feedback from fans of the book series about how the makers screwed up so much during filming that it was a complete betrayal. I personally have never read the books, and so have no idea what they're talking about.

Still, I'd like to hear your thoughts regarding the movie (if you've seen it or have plans to) and if you're a fan of the books. No flaming please, let's keep this discussion civilized, alright?

I plan to. Never read the books.

Keep in mind that it takes something for lack of a better word, "special", to make me see a movie. And elemental gods are so under-utilized.

I've never even seen "The Dark Knight", the "Star Wars: Original Trilogy", or "Watchmen"

I read all the books, and the trailers were enough to piss me off to the point of not seeing the movie.

Never read the books and the movie looks like a shit way of getting teens to like greek mythology.

I hope people hate this movie.

Hollywood has taken away vampires, werewolves and musicals from me, I won't let them have my beloved greek mythology

I didn't read the books, but I did go to see the movie and I thought it was pretty good. It's a fun action packed movie with a bit of mystery behind it, but don't bring children because some kids in the theater started to scream at a few part. But overall I would suggest it to people who are at least a bit interested in it.

Of course the fans of the books are going to be pissed. Directors never get it right with fans of a book seris.

I know that; felt the same way about LOTR. But I just want to know everyone's opinion, from all across the spectrum.

unless they use super hot actors who are relatively unkown and stick to the story of the book.

I saw the trailer for this when I went to see Daybreakers a few weeks ago, which I loved. Although I'm not sure why a trailer for Percy Jackson was showing before a film aimed at adults. Silly Vue...

Anyway, the trailer was enough to pique my interest and I'll probably go and see it. Plus, the director is also the guy behind the first two Harry Potter films, which were pretty good adaptations (even if they did suffer slightly from Adaptation Decay). I haven't read the Percy Jackson books, but I consider Adaptation Decay to be by no means a bad thing, so I'll see the film anyway...
