I love the survival horror genre. I feel that Resi Evil and Silent Hill are the top two contenders (maybe I am wrong). I have played all in the series of both games. I was extremely undecided which was best, that was till I played Resi Evil 4 on the Wii. Shock fact: The first time I played Resi Evil 4 was april 2008. What a great game. I can honestly say that Resident Evil 4 is my Game of this year, that takes some saying in the light of all the modern masterpieces available. Resi Evil 4 was awesome and it has swayed me more towards the franchise than Silent Hill but I won't write Silent Hill: Homecoming off just yet. It may surprise all. The smart money says Resi Evil 5 but a piece of my heart is hoping that we will have many more visits to the town of Silent Hill in the future.
How do all of you feel about the survival horror genre?

Terrified. Veritably traumatized with fear.

Eh, no, not really, I never got the appeal. I can feel vulnerable chunky ill equipped and unathletic in real life. Why would I want to play a GAME where i'm all these things -AND- being chased by zombies?

Thank goodness Left 4 Dead is fufilling the "Lets shoot hundreds of zombies!" niche nicely. It was about time someone made a game with zombies that didn't try to be survival or horror. S&H Fanboys, please no cracks about RE4 being an action game. Dead Space, maybe.

I thought that was the entire point of Left 4 Dead?

Wasn't really a survival horror game either though. Or maybe it was just me. The whole "Not running out of ammo once" thing kinda took the scary aspect away, with the exception of a single fight against a bunch of robed fellows in the castle which I found somewhat intimidating. Not saying Resi 4 was a bad game, I quite enjoyed my PS2 version, just that I didn't really see it as a survival horror game because I wasn't really feeling the fear.

I only got into Resident Evil with RE4 on the Wii, but I'm looking forward to 5. Also enjoyed Silent Hill 5, for all its flaws.

I'm trying to decide which one of these two games to buy next.

RE was OK.
RE2 was brilliant.
RE3 was Meh.
RE4 was brilliant.

SH was good
SH2 was Probably the best of all these games, I am currently replaying.
SH3 was good
SH4 and Origins I have not played.

How have people found the new RE and SH games?

I want to buy one of them but not sure which, I have liked both franchises, however prefer Silent Hill but not sure what I think of the look of Homecoming.

If they're both Crap I might just but Silent Hill: The Room.

Resident Evil has always been bad.

Resident Evil will always be bad.

Why are people so in love with this series? No idea. Its definitely not the story.

Agreed but I found 2 & 4 to be rather fun.

Silent Hill were better games, but what with Homecoming being from the American development team I'm not sure what to expect. Wish I could get a demo of it.
