Poll: Satanism

I'm curious to see what people here think of Satanism as an ideology. Firstly, though, I want to know what you all actually know about Satanism BEFORE looking it up. Satanism is about self worship. What most people think is satanism is devil worship and a completely different thing. There's different types of satanism just like with christianity.

My opinion of Satanism is that it is like Scientology in that it was invented purely for commercial purposes. After looking over the texts it appears that Satanism is children's logic mixed with the 'cool' parts of Christianity.

Both are detestable and both rely on the supernatural to advance its agendas, which I dislike as an atheist.

i think all religions are stupid. all that religion has brought upon mankind is conflicts and hate. but if we have to accept that some people believe in magical elves, then i think it doesnt matter what kind of elves. therefore i dont think that any kind of religion is worse than other.

I knew about Satanism before those links. I researched a lot of religions.

Can't say it's bad or good, it just is. As long as no one actually hurts anything or anyone or imposes their religion, it's fine, just as any other. There are more Atheistic Satanists or simply those worshipping his symbolism than those actively praising Satan anyway.

I am with you there friend, I will strech it further however and say all dogmatic/unquestioned beliefs are dangerous, be it religion or indeed anything else. (as an example some people dogmaticaly belive all of one political parties lines, I feel this just as harmful as not questioning religion.)

There isn't much comparison to Scientology, because Satanism doesn't ask for your money, or your complete obedience, or your devotion to the "religion", so it's not really in it for commercial purposes

This pretty much sums it up.

Satanism as self-worship is, quite frankly, childish, short-sighted and attention-grabbing. The 'philosophy' doesn't work all that well in modern society (eye for an eye isn't exactly compatible with current western law system) and the terminology used is needlessly attention-whoring. 'Ooh, cool you get to call your room something other than a room'.

Also, sex is magic? Wtf?

Theistic satanism is no better. Why would anyone worship something like that?

I looked up Satanism in the past, out of wonder for what it actually is.
It isn't that dissimilar from other religions, only it's more overtly focused on selfishness as a means of honouring Satan.

From what I remember; I could be quite wrong.

Where is the option for not caring either way. I really couldn't care less what people worship. They can worship anything for an undetonated nuke in the sewers of New York or God or whatever well that is up to them I really don't care.
