Fatal Frame 1 and 2. Don't know why, but for some reason ghosts like that creep me out. Doesn't help that you move like a snail while doing it.

Play Scratches. That was the most scariest game I've ever played.
Well, it was all atmosphere... almost nothing happened. (I'll admit opening the door and seeing the missing mask made me fall out of my chair, though...)
But thats what is lacking in todays "horror" games, atmosphere. I hate everything that has come out claiming to be a "horror" game just because they don't focus on the atmosphere of the game.
The problem with Scratches is that that's all it was - all atmosphere, three actual scares. THREE. Silent Hill, particularly 3, on the other hand, does a good job of balancing the two, because we get some good scares and panic moments, but we still feel vulnerable and terrified when we aren't in immediate danger.

None of them scare me.
YOU LIE. Or at least, you're not a human. Because no human could indulge in the horrors of Fatal Frame and come out with dry pants.

Also, since there's like a million of these threads, I'm going to throw a wrench into my routine and say Metal Gear Solid 2.

So last night I was working on MGS2 and I was really getting into it. It was around 2 in the morning and everyone else in my house was asleep. Then the section where Raiden is naked running around Arsenal Gear came up and as far as I was concerned it was just a normal section like any other... and then the Colonel called me up on the Codec and said "Raiden... turn off the game console now" and I swear to you my face turned white and a chill went down my spine... I don't even know why it was that scary, but it really freaked me out. It's one of those things that if someone had told me about it (like Psycho Mantis), I would have probably laughed and thought it was pretty cool that the game knew you played Castlevania. But now I finally understand...

Fatal Frame is the epitome of good horror. And interactivity just makes it scarier.

None of those. System Shock 2 is the scariest. Condemned is close behind it. Condemned 2? Don't be ridiculous, there is no such game. There. Is. No. Such. Game.

Resident Evil was a pretty scary game when I first played it (when it came out). I'm not so scared by it now though, but it gets credit for scaring younger me.

I'm going to say something totally stupid here, Mass Effect. the first time i boarded that ship with the coma guy and the crazy biotic chick, a nearly shit myself. I was just listening to the log, and all of a sudden, I hear "I will destroy you" and shepard falls down.

Out of your list? Silent Hill 1-3, but out of my list I'd have to say either System Shock 2 or Clocktower

I haven't played too many of those, so i chose Dead Space, because it actually did a pretty good job. On the pc that is. The lack of an achievement system adds to the realism. as for resident evil, they do a decent job.

However i would have to say Doom 3. It did an excellent job.

If anyone could direct me to any decent horror or just scary games, i would appreciate it. I haven't played many.

The first three Silent Hill games. Oddly enough Silent Hill 3, not 2, was the one that gave me nightmares for months.

Dead Space, Resident Evil and F.E.A.R. weren't at all scary.

Condemned was mostly not scary but had a couple of good parts.

I haven't played Silent Hill or Fatal Frame.

The only game that ever got to me was Penumbra. Especially that part where you turn on the lights. Errg.
