'PlayStation palmar hidradenitis'. Yes, it exists, a real skin disorder you can get.. from playing a little to much Playstation. There's now conclusive proof that Playstation is bad for you. My only question though, is how can they suddenly create a new disease when there has only been ONE reported case of 'Pph' in history of videogaming? If that's how scientist do things, I think I will stick to being a lazy gamer ignorant and cut off from the 'real-world'.

There is a certain prestige that comes with discovering a previously unknown condition. This doctor is taking irritation caused by a controller on the hands of someone with a known skin condition and re-labeling this as a new condition altogether. It's baloney, and while it did make the news, it will not fly in the medical community.

Sounds like "Nintendo Neck" that kids were suffering from back in the NES/SNES days.

I had something similar happen to me while doing fast paced hot cooking while wearing latex gloves (job). I a had similar outbreak. It went away when I swapped brands of gloves, and eased back on the heat.

There might have been something ON the controler in question that caused her to react oddly. I'll bet if she got a new Duelshock 3, she'd be fine. Also, she should wash her hands. If sweat IS her problem, bad hygine could be the problem with her dermatitis.

It is hardly a previously unknown condition. The condition diagnosed on the Swiss patient is called idiopathic eccrine hidradenitis, and the symptoms are soars on the patients hands and feet. Having the soars only on you hands is very rare, but not previously unseen. the reason for the new flashy name is merely the fact that the disease can be caused by playing PlayStation, not because the condition was undiscovered.

If you get a repetitive strain injury playing the Wii, would they call it Nintendonitis?

Skin specialists are called Dermatologists. =] And I have a feeling this is probably just some scare tactic for people to use moisturiser on their rough skin.
