Poll: Serpent Rider Series / Ye Olde Style FPS Games

Who else remembers, and LOVES the fuck out of this game? I recently picked it up again, and I have to say I miss the old style FPS / RPG games like this. They didn't focus on graphics, they focused on storyline and gameplay. And they weren't made for 8-12 year old's either, these games were HARD. I remember playing it as a child (Probably 9 or 10) and actually being SCARED of the monsters in the game!

So, let's get a thread FULL of these types of games!!!

OMG, I remember this game. I was actually thinking about it the other day and how HARD it was. I couldn't remember what it was called, but the minute I saw that cover I knew You're right, those monsters used to terrify me. Not because I was scared, but because I knew they didn't fuck around

I remember Heretic being a pretty standard Doom-clone, and Hexen splitting it into classes with three weapons each.

They were a fun thematic change, but I don't remember the story being all that deep or fascinating.

That was referring to Olde Style FPS / RPG's in general when I said that.

Yeah, the Serpent Rider series storyline was somewhat bland; but it was good.

I don't quite get this whole "Didn't focus on graphics" bit.

This was '94 afterall. Graphics for that type of game tended to boil down to highly detailed sprites or blocky low-poly models in basically an empty corridor.
