I, for one, am against the smoking of marijuana. However, I can't turn a blind eye to the many ways it could benefit our country. I will confess to being a troll in the past when it comes to Cannabis. My best friend was killed by a stoned driver a few years ago on 4/20. This is not a question of it being legal to smoke. It is whether or not you believe that the United States government should allow hemp to be cultivated commercially.

PROS:
Food-
Hemp seeds contain all the essential amino acids and essential fatty acids necessary to maintain healthy human life. The seeds can be eaten raw, ground into a meal, sprouted, made into hemp milk (akin to soy milk), prepared as tea, and used in baking. The fresh leaves can also be eaten in salads. Products range from cereals to frozen waffles, hemp tofu to nut butters. A few companies produce value added hemp seed items that include the seed oils, whole hemp grain (which is sterilized as per international law), hulled hemp seed (the whole seed without the mineral rich outer shell), hemp flour, hemp cake (a by-product of pressing the seed for oil) and hemp protein powder. Hemp is also used in some organic cereals, for non-dairy milk somewhat similar to soy and nut milks, and for non-dairy hemp "ice cream.

Medicine-
Hemp seed oil has anti-inflammatory properties.

Fiber-
The fiber is one of the most valuable parts of the hemp plant. It is commonly called bast, which refers to the fibers that grow on the outside of the woody interior of the plant's stalk, and under the outer most part (the bark). Bast fibers give the plants strength. Hemp fibers can be 0.91 m (3 ft) to 4.6 m (15 ft) long, running the length of the plant. Depending on the processing used to remove the fiber from the stem, the hemp may naturally be creamy white, brown, gray, black or green.

Building Material-
In Europe and China, hemp fibers have been used in prototype quantities to strengthen concrete, and in other composite materials for many construction and manufacturing applications.

Water and Soil Purification-
Hemp can be used as a "mop crop" to clear impurities out of wastewater, such as sewage effluent, excessive phosphorus from chicken litter, or other unwanted substances or chemicals.

Fuel-
Biofuels such as biodiesel and alcohol fuel can be made from the oils in hemp seeds and stalks, and the fermentation of the plant as a whole, respectively.

CONS: I apologize to say that I am naturally biased in this position, so I will do the mature thing and abstain from this part to avoid acting like a troll.

I don't see any problem with growing it at all, but I'm all for the legalization of all drugs, just to stop the accidental reverse-psychology.

Personally, I think that hemp should be legalized, but should require an age like alcohol. It should also be illegal to drive with it in your body, also like alcohol. That's just how I feel.

As long as all the effects that makes it a narcotic (ie mind altering effects, feeling of being high) are not present and it has not side effects like that, then i guess so. But not to be used a drug. Im against weed smoking.

Hemp is legal, considering that hemp doesn't make you high.
You mean Cannabis AKA marijuana.

Hemp - not a drug. They use the fibers for organic clothing and shoes and bags and things.

Under medicine I would like to add that it is a great way to rejuvenate the appetite of chemo patients and AIDS victims.

Yes, it should be legal. Marijuana is a cousin plant to Hopps, the main ingredient in beer. The effect it has on people is no more severe than alcohol.

If it was distributed by the government (along with ID card, monthly limits, etc) and taxed, it could simultaneously reduce illegal dealing and improve the economy...hopefully.

And yes, I am also anti-smoking it myself.

Cannabis sativa AKA Hemp
While hemp contains less THC than Marijuana, it can still be hazardous to your health.

I'm sorry, but your avatar renders your argument invalid :)

Hemp contains so little THC that you would probably have a lung full of tar before you got high at all. As far as I know hemp is legal in the US, (it is here in NZ anyway).

I'm for legalising Marijuana because the effects are less than that of alcohol, and it is less addictive than tobacco. The prohibition of cannabis isn't doing anyone any good because people are gonna try it and smoke it anyway.

The main problem is that Hemp can cross-breed with Marijuana and have high THC levels

All illegal drugs should be legalised, regulated and taxed. Why stop at Cannabis?

actually, believe it or not, in the U.S.A. it is illegal to grow Hemp, simply because it is in the same plant genus as marijuana.

with the exception on some farmers in places like Hawaii, who are legally allowed to grow small amounts of test crops, all of the hemp in the U.S.A. is imported from places like China.
