I currently own a Xbox360 and a Wii;
but I've wanted to get back to playing some PS2 Games (my ps2 is dead) such as kingdom hearts and .hack but I can't decide if I should buy a new PS2 or a used 60/80GB ps3 (the ones with backwards compatibly.

I also have ff7/8 on my PSP, and I would like to see them on the big screen;
But is that worth the extra money?

or should i wait for the ps3 slim to get ps2 support)

what do you think?

I think you should go with a 80gb PS3. The hard drive is easy to replace on the fat models if you fill it up, and the PS3 has some pretty good exclusives like Warhawk and Uncharted. The hardware would also be in better condition and it would be a more worthwhile investment.

I say buy a PS2, really. You can find one dirt cheap. Unless you don't care about money, so sure, a PS3 is as good as the other consoles.

From what I understand the slim PS3s don't support backwards compatibility at all, due to hardware limitations, if you're going to get a PS3 try for an old fat one, or get a slim and a PS2, they aren't that expensive to find anymore.

Also, the old games look like ass (more than they used to anyways) on a big screen, and this is coming from a guy who loves FF7/8.

PS3's got a lot of good games for it, but look at the catalog before you commit to buying, no sense in picking up another system on top of what you have it you're able to play everything you're interested in with what you already have.

Won't be happening at any point in time unfortunately.

Do you have a 1080p TV and do you watch movies and would watch Blu Rays? If so, yeah, the PS3 could be right for you. I have a XBox 360 and play games on my computer, but I found the PS3 to be a worthwhile investment. There are a couple of exclusive titles that I want to try out and the Blu Ray Player is really good.
If you only want it as a gaming console, get a PS2.

If you can buy a 60 gig, do it. It has the most backwards compatibility.

if you're looking for cheap get a ps2.

I got one when our 360 was stolen and it's still got some quality games like timesplitters.

Be careful where you get one though cause since I got one 5 months ago we've been through 2 replacements.

Yes, get a PS3, because once PSN is back you get a month free PS Plus and a free download.
