Okay so here's my scenario:

I'm 14 (I'll be fifteen come December) and I'm from Denmark.
The Danish school school system has an offer that allows me to take a year in High School in USA, England, France, Canada, New Zealand, Australia or Ireland. The only requirement is that I have the equivalent of a C in all my core subjects and that I am 15-19 years old.

So, I'm thinking of finishing this school year (come June next year), and then having a year in a High School in USA. By then, I'll be 15, as already mentioned, and I don't think getting a C is very hard for me.

Info about the offer: I'm offered a 14 day preparation course in the country I choose, before starting in school and I will be living with a host family that has gone through 'training' to be nice to me. I can also sign up for 'Discovery tours', where I'm taken on tours with other exchange students to see awesome landmarks and that kinda stuff.
In England, Australia, France, Canada and the states, I can also choose which part I want to be sent to.

So to all you Americans: should I do it? Is High School an awesome experience, or does it suck?
Advise of all kinds is welcome. Also if you hail from one of the other available countries, feel free to give me some reasons as to why I'm better off going there. I will be listening :)

EDIT: I speak fluent English. My English stepfather of 11 years has taught me the language since I was 4-5 years old. I don't have self-esteem issues and I'm open to new people.

MEGA EDIT!: I'm beginning to lean more towards Australia.

High school in the states really varies. Sometimes it can be the worst years of your life, sometimes it can be the best. All I know for sure, is that if you have a good handful of trust worthy friends, then you'll be fine.

Plus, all the kids at my high school love foreign kids, I'd assume its similar all over the country (Or at least in New England) Go for it man.

Really high school isn't as good as they make it out to be in all those American TV shows. In fact Denmark is probably better.
However on the other hand it may be a good experience to immerse yourself in a new environment and to be inderpendent and all that junk.

I'd say of your choices america is probably the worst one since the school system sounds like it is run by fucking maniacs. I'm Irish and I think your best options are Ireland, Canada or New Zealand.

If you're the outgoing type and your english is good go for it. If you're the quiet type and your english is shaky you should probably still do it even if you might end up hating that year it's still something you've learned about yourself and another country.

Eh, American schools vary greatly from state to state and other areas. Some schools are pretty cool, while others are terrible. So I guess it depends on where you'd be attending.

No matter where you go to HS it is going to suck in some way.

But do it, because you only get one chance to live. You will meet new people, see a different perspective on life, government, and people.

Do it, if for no other reason, because you only have one chance to do it.

I would say go for it. As long as I have been in high school (I started this year) it's been ok, sometimes fun, but hell, it's school XDD

speaking as an american with a german student in my class at college, if you come here, you will vastly outshine everyone and be overqualified for everything.

if that won't get you bored and listless, awesome, come here; there is much to do here, and the food is great, if not a bit life-threatening. :D

sincerely,

I have about 5 foreign kids in my American right now. One of them is one of my best friends, problem is that they were very popular in their native country, but could only get like 3 good friends in our school. She hates it (or at least last time I checked). Another German kid got the shit kicked out him, this never happens at my school. The other 3 are completly ostracized from the rest of the school. Good luck!

COME TO TEXAS!

We have a lot of foreign exchange kids at my school actually. Just last month a whole platoon of Japanese kids came. Even though they had normal clothes, they insisted on wearing their Japanese uniforms to school, haha. Though their English was atrocious, it was fun hanging out with them.

So far I'm getting this:
"Do it, but if you go to America there's a 50-50% chance that you'll have a shitty year."

Amirite?

Honestly, it depends on where you go in the US. Ive lived here my entire life, ((20 years come late november)) and there are some places you dont want to be. Ever.
The US as a whole, is probably one of the last places you want to be. Racists, gangs, violance, drunks, homeless, and more of all of them then anywhere else on the planet.

There are alot of areas that are 10x better then others, and there are places that are 10x worse.

i say if you do decide to do it, you avoid the US and go to France or Australia.
