Hello everybody,
The title warrants a very immediate explanation so here goes:
Today during my martial arts class a friend of mine stated that kids (defined <18) Should be allowed to carry guns everywhere from school to the mall provided they pass a government firearms test. I of course took the side of logic and reason and immediately called him a dumb ass. We then asked a few other people at the class, and all of whom answered with an immediate "no". In an attempt to further prove my point I now ask you.

Children are less experienced in controlling their emotions and would therefor be more inclined to do something rash in a fit of rage or passion. AKA: they aren't emotionally prepared to restrain themselves when their judgement is imaired.

Of course they should be allowed.....in their imangination at least. This thread is kind of point less but since you bothered I will give you an appropiate answer.
I'll go straight to what will happen. Kids taking over the world. Adults getting shot at. It would be apocalypse.

I myself am a member of the NRA and I must say that giving a child the equivalent of a conceal carry permit is a bad idea. While it is a good thing to teach a child the proper use of a firearm this should be done under trained adult supervision; and while an accurate understanding of what a firearm can do and an appreciation for the danger it can be will decrease the likelihood of a child using a gun in a manner that would harm others, giving a blanket license to children to carry a gun anywhere they like is just plain a bad idea.

I take the side that he is also a massive dumbass.

We don't even allow kids to vote, why should we allow them to be able to kill someone at will?

What an IDIOT.

I wonder how his judgemental skills and emotional control were at 12?

I think the kids who want to carry a gun such as a 12 year old boy like me should have to take a course to decide weather or not the child should be able too
12? UNDERAGE USER ALERT!!!111!!!

Now that that's out of the way, I wonder what the OP's friend was thinking. Of course kids shouldn't have a concealed carry permit. It's dangerous enough putting one in the hands of an adult; giving a little kid that kind of access to a gun is something that even the NRA wouldn't support. Actually, I'm pretty sure they'd be solidly against it; isn't a big part of what they do training kids how to properly handle guns, so they don't wind up accidentally shooting someone if they find their parents' gun, or if they, say, go on a hunting trip and have a gun under adult supervision?

No. Children are not capable of properly making the kinds of decisions associated with things like firearms. Just like there is a minimum age for driving, drinking and voting, there should be a minimum age for owning a firearm.

Ok you might get some kids smoking or drinking underage right now, but it usually doesn't end up with someone getting a full magazine to the chest.

Yeah sure, if they are allowed alcohol, smoking, voting and driving they should be allowed guns!
Oh waaaait!

EDIT: Now it looks like I copied from the post above mine. Thanks man. I swear it wasn't there when I opened the thread!

Dude, if some of the people I go to school started carrying guns, screw you guys, I'm moving to Canada. Kids aren't really good at controlling their emotions, so whose to say what if they snap? They'll have easy access to go on a shooting to spree. Not to say that adults aren't capable of it ( Its more common actually), but seriously? Give Little Johnny a Glock?

I don't think a majority of adults should be allowed to carry guns. The last thing I want is for little Johnny and, little Janie to be packing heat. It just seems like a horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE idea

So that this doesn't get flagged for low content, I just can't see kids, whose emotions are still developing, being responsible owners of guns. .

There is a massive amount of responsibility that comes with carrying a gun, and frankly I don't believe that a kid should be able to attempt using that responsibility. I think the risks probably would far outweigh the benefits as most kids and teenagers (especially teenagers) aren't really at an emotionally stable time, and haven't had the time to properly develop the good judgement that should be needed.
