EDIT: Forgot to check the search bar to see if this has been done before. If it has, sorry for the redundancy.

That's basically the question. Or rather, would it be good for the franchise if Bethesda took Fallout in this direction? I don't know about you, but in the Fallout-verse I've often wondered how the rest of the world fared in the nuclear apocalypse.

But then, the entirety of the Fallout lore has been squarely set in America. There really hasn't been any mention of any other country--save for maybe China or Canada. The truth of the matter is that the Fallout feel and experience weighs heavily on the 50's style Cold War influence and irony found mainly in American history. Changing settings would mean changing everything. But, we in gaming know that isn't always a bad thing.

I dunno. Could any of you see it? A European, Asian, Australian setting in the Fallout-verse? What kind of ideas would you have that would make such a radical change work? What would need to be in this game to make it still feel like Fallout? Discuss away.

i feel what makes a fallout game is the time line with 50's culture but 22nd century technology. Being set in another country might mix it up but they would need to craft like 50 new enemy types to show how each are of the world was affected differently by the radiation. my vote would be to go to japan in maybe a pseudo feudal/advanced age feel.

nah, like you said, Fallout is Fallout because it's a lulzy look at American Cold War fears, culture, and propaganda. Someone can make a different series about Europe or Asia.

Part of me thinks it should stay in America, but another part of me would love to see London in fallout.

How about setting it 50 years after Fallout 2 in Arroyo, see how things have progressed, meet new people, see old faces, continue storylines, y'know, 'sequel to Fallout 2' type things.

I always though Fallout was about the 'American way of life' and the 'American dream.' Not sure if it would fit in with a European version.

But bring on a post-apocalyptic Melbourne/Sydney!

Fallout Europe exists. Its called Stalker.
No its not. Chernobyl actually happened, thats not to say that The Events in Stalker actually had much to do with the initial incident as "It was an undisturbed location for our group of misguided scientists to do science." And I could go on for longer if I had the time and patience about both games being almost infinitely different from each other. And I also don't get why STALKER is always labled "Post apocalyptic". I thought Post apoc. was the world, not just a small(ish) corner of Ukraine?

The thing is, fallout Lore (which should be followed more accordingly, I'm looking at you bethesda,) has Europe pretty much decimated before the United States even was nuked. It could work, but it Might not. Also, Fallout's social commentary was always poking at the US paranoia of communism. Europe is pretty chilled out in the paranoia regard IMO.

I think they should just go all out Mad Max and set the game in Australia with some vehicles, but that's just me.

Fallout: Australia....

You walk out of your vault, etc.
And get killed by the wildlife... The un-mutated stuff that is.
You don't want to see the mutated stuff!

Or get killed by a tiny spider in your sleep, before the tutorial is over XD

Can't hold this back, Personally I Hope to god that never happens.

Anyways, I don't think it would happen?, I Mean I could see perhaps Canada, Or Mexico. But wasn't there something about America only having the vaults?. While at the same time I would love to see a fallout in Ireland. But, More realistically I would like to see it go further north, Into Canada or along the border states, Washington, Northren Idaho, Montana, North Dakota Minnesota (Twin Citys?) Wisconsin, Michigan... Ect...

I don't see why not. One set in Russia or China[footnote]Yes, I am aware that China is not part of Europe. The point still stands.[/footnote] would be pretty damn cool settings.

I think that your idea has some promise but as everyone has pointed out, Fallout is about America. It might make a little sense to have a New Vegas expansion that takes you to an island that was formerly a Chinese colony but anything else probably wouldn't feel the same. Besides, you probably couldn't hunt Deathclaws in Europe or anywhere else unless the Enclave expanded.

i'd love to see how China fared in the Fallout Universe; would also make for some interesting stories and DLC.

If not China then the Annexed Canada.

I agree with this guy. Fallout 4: Canada seems like the best Fallout game ever. I'm tired of it always being in America. I wanna see the aftermath of someone bombing the hell out of my home and native land. But there has to be giant moose in it...30 foot moose.

It would be really interesting to see the "opposite" side to the war. The characters would have to almost solely be Chinese though - there wouldn't be many immigrants, unless over the 200 + years some survivors have wandered into the area looking for a nicer/safer region. And what would their "vaults" or whichever be like? Assuming that they had their very own organization like Vault-Tec.

Otherwise, considering the war, it wouldn't make much sense to switch to another region - but perhaps the war affected other regions, and Vault-Tec branched out to surrounding allied countries, such as Europe or Australia and New Zealand.
