A lot of people are complaining that Skyward Sword doesn't have voice acting, and a few reviewers have marked it down because of this. I haven't played Skyward Sword, but I have a feeling if they added voice acting it wouldn't feel right and fanboys would cry "RUINED FOREVER!" before you can say Ganondorf.

So do you think Zelda games should have voice acting or not? I think Link should never be voiced, but maybe it wouldn't hurt if the people around him got some dialogue.

Also, if they did add voice acting, would you want it in English or Hylian?

As long as Link isn't voice acted beyond a grunt or two, I'm fine. Voice acting does allow for more story to be put out there more easily, so I am generally all for it, but Link should stay silent. I am the only person who gets to define what Link sounds like to me, just like you are for you, and it should stay that way.

Playing through Skyward Sword when I have time still, but so far (and especially in the opening) the dialogue felt genuine enough that it would have been improved with voice acting. However, in any of the other Zelda games, I feel that they are perfect as they are, and that voice acting would not improve them at all. In Skyward Sword, I do really feel like it would benefit greatly from voice acting. In general, however, definitely not.

EDIT:I do agree that Link SHOULD NOT, EVER have a real voice. He's fine in Skyward. However, I do think that the other characters (Zelda, the king, maybe even Fi, but that's pushing it) should have a voice.

You tell me.

Nope.

Besides, they get enough done with their body language and even eyes in Wind Waker.

I think they are able to bring the Legend of Link games to current times and still maitain the old aspects, like no voice acting but with good dialogue to read.

Cuz theres always the off chance you would get really awfull voice actors, or good asian voices, but horrible dubs (like.... any game that was asian and dubbed into american).

Withouth voice acting, but still maitaining the sounds and orchestrated songs are better in my opinion ;)

i think the dialogue could do with some slight remolding, especially on links side

but voices? that isn't too big of a deal to me honestly, it'd be nice if everyone but link had voices, but link still at least had some kind of dialogue rolling in small convo's and such.

Well EXCUUUUUUUUUUUUSE ME, Princess!

Such words forever immortalized in my memory.

Link is better as the quiet adventurous hero.

Well... technically the [main] Zelda games have voice acting, they just speak jibberish and grunts.

Personally, I couldn't really care either way.

Fuck no.
I don't know what it is, but EVERY VOICE Link has had beyond his usual grunts has been...catastrophically bad.

Don't blame the voice-actors, blame the shitty script and moronic writers

as for whether or not Zelda need voice-acting, only if they can get Crispin Freeman to play Ganon.....that is all

Remember Metroid? Yeah, you do. Not really much of a great success.

I like silent Zelda, personally.
Whoever said Link had to be given a voice? The Half-Life games do just fine with everybody but Gordon Freeman talking. If well-written and well-acted, I think voice acting can do just about any game justice. The problem in video games is too often one or the other of those falls terribly, terribly short, forever jading all those who come in contact with it to the very concept of voice acting in games.

Of course. It's time for Zelda to become a modern video game and not just yet another Ocarina of Time clone with motion control.

Oh lawdy, I see a shitstorm coming from the east!

The way I see it, whatever you think about the Zelda formula, voice acting isn't gonna change it much. You don't need voice acting to be a modern game, and the whole push for everything to be "cinematic" and "movie-like" is unnecessary. On the other hand, a change like adding voices wouldn't necessarily hurt the Zelda franchise as long they handled it with more elegance than they did Other M.

It should totally have voice acting. Its a far better option than sitting through all that text. And can we all just forget about the Tv show and CDi games? We I want GOOD voice actors on it. It could work.

I do rather like the way it is now. I liked how they handled it in Twilight Princess. Midna sometimes said a few things in her own language, but never spoke for a whole dialogue window. The rest of the characters had laughs or grunts or other noises to convey their feelings.
