I'm not quite sure why everyone is trashing the last 10 years. Granted I grew up in this decade and therefore it is my home, I can't help but feel attached to what seemed like a perfect, rosy, carefree decade. Although I am biologically inclined to love it, i still think that there's a lot to love by others as well. (Yes, we all know about the 10s, 40s and 60s)
It's true that the NES will never be re-released, but what's wrong with the Dreamcast, PS2, PS3, XBox, XBox 360, Gamecube and Wii? What ever happened to the fanboys being in love with Halo? All the gaming progression that happened in the last ten years has been beautiful. The last decade saw the releases of some of the best games ever. Has everyone already forgotten Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2? Not to mention the GBA, DS, and PSP? The DS was the first mainstream handheld to have a good touch screen interface, plus the PSP was the first handheld to incorperate CDs.
What about computer technology? In the 80s and 90s, there were Commodores and slow ass word documents. Nowadays, even phones and game consoles have internet swifter than a coin tied to the end of a jet (hyperbole). And iPods/iPhones? That ALL happened within the last 10 years (last 8 actually).
Movies? There's no point in discussing that. If you saw Avatar, then you know how far technology has come. James Cameron made a movie that was 99% CGI and yet looked as real as the water dripping from a faucet. DVDs and Blu-ray also showed up in the last ten years as VHS died out for obvious reasons.
I must admit that music is the only thing I will excuse here. We've had some good bands like Wolfmother, Tenacious D and System of a Down (holy crap, they're good), but the 80s definitely produced a lot of excellent music, in fact 80% of the music on my iPod touch (invented within the last 5 years) was released in th 80s, with the exception of the aforementioned bands. However, the knowledge that all that plus the Beatles came out in the past is assuaged by the fact that in the 2000s we can listen to all of it on our IPODS.
So I have chemically and mathematically proven that if you think the 80s (and all its fashion trends) were superior to 1999-2009 and that the holocaust wasn't nearly as bad as massive computer innovation then you are a COMPLETE TOSSER (with all due respect).
