I'm not quite sure why everyone is trashing the last 10 years. Granted I grew up in this decade and therefore it is my home, I can't help but feel attached to what seemed like a perfect, rosy, carefree decade. Although I am biologically inclined to love it, i still think that there's a lot to love by others as well. (Yes, we all know about the 10s, 40s and 60s)

It's true that the NES will never be re-released, but what's wrong with the Dreamcast, PS2, PS3, XBox, XBox 360, Gamecube and Wii? What ever happened to the fanboys being in love with Halo? All the gaming progression that happened in the last ten years has been beautiful. The last decade saw the releases of some of the best games ever. Has everyone already forgotten Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2? Not to mention the GBA, DS, and PSP? The DS was the first mainstream handheld to have a good touch screen interface, plus the PSP was the first handheld to incorperate CDs.

What about computer technology? In the 80s and 90s, there were Commodores and slow ass word documents. Nowadays, even phones and game consoles have internet swifter than a coin tied to the end of a jet (hyperbole). And iPods/iPhones? That ALL happened within the last 10 years (last 8 actually).

Movies? There's no point in discussing that. If you saw Avatar, then you know how far technology has come. James Cameron made a movie that was 99% CGI and yet looked as real as the water dripping from a faucet. DVDs and Blu-ray also showed up in the last ten years as VHS died out for obvious reasons.

I must admit that music is the only thing I will excuse here. We've had some good bands like Wolfmother, Tenacious D and System of a Down (holy crap, they're good), but the 80s definitely produced a lot of excellent music, in fact 80% of the music on my iPod touch (invented within the last 5 years) was released in th 80s, with the exception of the aforementioned bands. However, the knowledge that all that plus the Beatles came out in the past is assuaged by the fact that in the 2000s we can listen to all of it on our IPODS.

So I have chemically and mathematically proven that if you think the 80s (and all its fashion trends) were superior to 1999-2009 and that the holocaust wasn't nearly as bad as massive computer innovation then you are a COMPLETE TOSSER (with all due respect).

Well I have only been really around for this decade so I don't have much choice in the matter which was best. The technological advances were nice though.

Yeah, this decade was the only one I've lived through long enough to actually have cognizant memories of it, born in 1991, and no real memories before '95, this hasn't been all that bad as a decade. Technological evolution is enough to love it.

I haven't heard anybody trashing the technology and games of the last ten years, just the cultural and social events. The games have been great and the technological leaps have been substantial. The things that drag the decade down are the events like 9/11, Katrina, the wars and recession, Paris Hilton, Bush, etc. That and the bad music.

The days of pop-culture and mainstream ideology. Moreso than any other era anyway.

But they did invent this

Self-perfuming Business Suit

"Hyuk-ho Kwon of Kolon Company of Seoul, Korea, invented this suit. The suit is made with fabric soaked in a chemical that contains scented micro-capsules, which pop and release the odour when the wearer moves -- or gets bumped on a crowded subway train"

For movies, technology, video games it was one of the best. For the rest...ehhhhh...so-so.

Also there wasn't any BIG BAND this decade. One that shaped it. Like the 60's had The Beatles and the 70's Led Zeppelin. Even if you don't like them, their image and sound belongs to that part in history.

This one...

Comic books was also a bit poor.(or maybe it's because my lack of interest.)

It was a good set of years. Maybe if we had less Taliban, Paris Hilton and natural disasters it would have been better.

First of all, 1999-2009 is elven years, not a decade.

Anyway, I'm going to say the same thing in this thread that I said in a "this decade sucked" thread.

I've had worse. That about sums it up.

Seeing as it hold the most memories for me, both good and bad, it will remain one of the best decades of my life. It's been awesome, I hope the next decade can be as good as, if not better than this one.

Watch the last episode of the Colbert Report, and you can see why this decade sucked.

Look at the best movies and games of all time, and see why this decade sucked (1999 was THE year for both)

I do have an awesome 3 year old brother that came from this decade, so I guess not everything was bad. He's only there to counterbalance the little assholes of the previous two siblings though.

Why do you care about other peoples opinions objecting to your own?

If you think it was a great decade, then so be it you think it's awesome. If others don't, then too bad they didn't like it.

Can't we all just get along?

Nineties were better than the naughties (???) I think that's what they call it. It held so much more joy for me that technology and the like couldn't bring. I also had alot personal issues in the last decade that technology and the like couldn't fix. Therefore, regardless of everything and everyone else I didn't enjoy the naughties (I really hate that term)

Good thing about this decade, We the People of the US got George W. Bush.

And that was awesome... why?

To show us how bad one guy can fuck everything up:
9/11, terrorism, Iraq, Afghanistan, social and economic recessions, letting Paris Hilton live... it's a shame, I tell you, a shame.

But we got the PS3, XBOX 360 and the Wii... 'Too Close to Call.'

Not to be antagonistic, but given you only have one to choose from, that's not a great deal of leniency there is it?

For my 4, *shudders*, I'd put them 80s,70s,90,00s.

If we're going to the 40's, I'd say 60s,80s,70s,50s,90s,00s,40s.

00s just didn't have anything that defined it. And the 70s had an awful lot, just that it also had a LOT of bad stuff as well.
