So I downloaded and started playing Smite on XB1 just because it was free and I wanted to see how a 3d moba played out. I ended up really liking it and played it quite a bit, so much so that I bought the all gods pack so I could play around (I'm a major alt-a-holic). Well my girlfriend accidentally destroyed my XB1 so I decided to play the game on PC (where I primarily play my competitive games), only to find out that my gods are not there, my level is at 1 and I have to start over again completely fresh....

Anyway, do you think it is fair to make players pay for their content multiple times (once for each platform) making it so people have to pay a second time if they want to switch platforms?

Yes, it's fair

If I buy a movie digitally on Amazon and decide that I really liked it so I want to get the Blu-Ray to watch too, I'd have to buy it on that different format.

It certainly would be nice for game developers to let you play a game on multiple systems but I'm not irked at the injustice that they don't.

Bonus points when you can switch between platforms, but its not surprising, nor does it really seem unfair. Microsoft doesnt want you going off their stuff, Sony wont want you to go off their stuff. Only reason I buy games on multiple platforms is to keep playing it. If I have a reliable lasting place to play it, I dont need to buy it again. (Usually I buy a game on console, then later on Steam so I can play it after that console is done)

They're two different systems. And back when SMITE originally came to Xbox, Hi-Rez DID allow you to copy your PC account to your Xbox Live one, meaning all your skins and if you had the All Gods Pack you got that too.

If you switch from an xbox to a playstation, then yes, I think it's fair.

However

if you switch from a PS3 to a PS4 then I think that's unfair. Especially if you bought it digitally on PSN or Xbonelive. Other information carried over digitally, why shouldn't those games? You don't have that problem with Steam.

Yes it is fair. Sure it is the same game, but you are playing on a different platform. Add the fact the game is essentially an F2P game and you can see hmwhy it makes sense. Not only that but every so often they have discounts on thegod pack AND wven at full price it costs less than half then a full priced game. Not to mention that hi-rez update the game with patches every month. I think they deserve it.

I think it's unfair, if only in the sense that, assuming it's the same as in Paladins, one needs a Hi-Rez account to play their games. So if you're signing into the same account across two different systems, what's the justification for effectively separating them?

The real villain here is your girlfriend.

Seriously, how do you accidentally destroy a three-hundred-dollar console? At that point, you're out three hundred dollars no matter what you do. The thirty or so bucks you paid for the god pack shouldn't be bothering you.

Many PS3 games DO transfer to PS4. Does SMITE not? I know I bought Terraria on PS4 but not Xbox One cause everything transferred, including Trophies. (Cause I do own Terraria on PS3 and 360)

Because your Xbox Hi-Rez isn't the same as your PC Hi-Rez (nor is your PS4 hi-rez the same). They have different codes for items for example (you can't use a PC code on Xbox for example) and such. You can play Xbox Live SMITE without making a Hi-Rez account at all, so they're considered different "games" for all intents and purposes.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Have you done the account merge thing?

https://www.smitegame.com/xbox-link/

Nm, after reading it, it sounds like its one way from pc to xbone... kinda. I don't know, its weird. I've just been playing smite on the pc, haven't tried merging to a console or anything.

Thanks for everyone's input, I suppose I was just upset at the situation more than anything else. That said, my accounts were already merged and I logged into the same hi-rez account for both systems, so I figured it would carry over (after buying the all gods pack, I hadn't played on PC so I didn't even think about it). That said, perhaps there should be a warning for large purchases like that saying they do not carry over even if you are on the same account.

It's rubbish, but not Smite's fault. The console makers made their systems walled gardens over which they have complete control. There have been some moves towards cross-play and the like, but for the vast majority of titles, they are still all separate systems. You shouldn't blame Smite for this, blame MS.

The move towards locking everything down to profiles, begun with the 360 was a horrid one and a negative for us. All purchases are to an account that another user on the same damn console may not have access to. Even save files are encoded to specific profiles.
