World War II; lone sniper infiltrates Berlin for some missions; third-person shooter with FPS realistic sniping mechanics.

There, I tried it. I apparently didn't use the hardcore mode for the first playthrough, but I'll go back to it today, even though:
- Third-person is not much fun in that kind of game
- Movement is clunky as hell
- Animations are terrible
- Cover mechanics are unreliable
- Textures are awful
- AI is unpredictable Enemy soldiers can be omniscient or braindead, depending on the situation. They sometimes move from cover to cover back and forth until you shoot them or just know exactly where you are for no apparent reason.

But, as I've seen, it's closer to a hardcore shooter than most games and the occasional slow-mo kill cam that shows eyeballs, nuts, bones or organs burst thanks to your gunning skills is very satisfying. There's no way in hell I'd pay 50$ for it, though. Many 15$ games are more polished than this nowadays. Looks like a wonky port from 2005. Does anyone know if the campaign is supposed to be long?

I have found only one aspect of the game enjoyable and that would be the kill cam of my bullet fling in the air, through someones scull in slow-mo and x-ray. There is a lot of detail pertaining to where the bullets land. There is even an animation for the testicles (I felt sorry for that guy after I hit him) and if you hit a grenade holstered on someones chest (Got a triple kill with that).

As for hardcore the game does not change much. With hardcore the game factors wind with each shoot. But because each shoot is at 100 yards max I don't bother compensating for it. I don't even know how much health your character has because regular soldiers just run around in circles and the enemy snipers have perfect accuracy and will automatically put you in critical health any time you peak out.

If the AI gets improved and the game has shoots over 500 yards I could see myself getting this from the bargain bin.

When I saw this I thought "actually that sounds like better AI than most games, after all most AI is extremely easy to predict."

but then I read this, that just sounds like bad AI. I'll look into it, if there is a demo I might give it a shot (pun intended). Although I just bought Catherine and I'm pretty enthralled with that lately. And I have New Vegas if I want to see bits of skull go flying.

I just love how this game takes a stereotypical Xbox Live gamertag as its name. Needs more "xX____Xx", though.

Though, no, I'm not interested. It's just not my type of games. I have a deep hatred of the sniper rifle in games. I do have to ask: Wouldn't unpredictable enemy AI be a good thing? It's sort of boring when enemies just walk around in the same path at the same rate over and over. This seems like it would be especially true in a game where you're supposed to pick off enemies from long range. If they just continued on the same path, you could just pick a spot in that path and wait to shoot there.

I'm downloading it right now for PC, so I can give some feedback about it in about a half hour.

What impressed me...custom difficulty! Yes, seriously custom difficulty should be present in every game ever as it helps tweak whatever functions you want.

It's like hardcore mode in New Vegas being available on Easy mode, these things are needed :D

The pricetag is indeed too hefty for - what sadly seems to be - yet another Go To Marker, Watch Cutscene, Shoot.

I'd like to play it, though. Much more satisfying than all the other current shooters.

I bought it from steam for £26.99 and I know I won't regret my purchase. I enjoy it way too much, and a bonus mission to kill Hitler with one of those satisfying visceral kill cams? Yes please! I hadn't really noticed the AI being particularly terrible, but they did occasionally seem psychic. I love the idea of using ambient sound to mask your shots, and shooting somebody's grenade belt and killing him and his 2 chums from like 100 metres. So satisfying. The fact that they also try to rescue wounded allies was cool as well, guy comes out of cover, picks up his friend on his back and carries him away. I just like little touches like that. Movement, animation and textures all seem fine to me, although cover is a tad unreliable. At least it's a hell of a lot better than ME3's shitty cover system.

I loved the old Sniper Elite game. The PS3 demo was awesome too but I don't think I'll buy it straight away.. saving up for other games.

On PC I can say I encountered none of your problems, so I'm going to chalk this one up for the glorious PC gaming master race.

Pre Purchased it on steam with my birthday money, I played the demo and quite frankly I found it amazing. Each kill is so satisfiying and it never really gets old. I also found a ton of replay value in the demo alone, the first time I would play it on the easiest settings, then put sniper help off then put enemy difficulty to extreme and each time felt better than the last. Also there's so many ways to approach some of the encounters, for example in the demo you see a nazi soldier walking around in the building you are going to be sniping from. You can either just shoot him in the head, or be creative and place a trip mine at a doorway and lure him your way with a shot, or you could simple throw a grenade in there and alert all the nazi soldiers around. One more reason I bought it is because well, you get to KILL HITLER if you pre order, I don't care that it's a pre order bonus just there to grab cash but goddamn who doesn't want to shoot a life like hitler!

Having enjoyed the first one, on PC, I'm enjoying it on the PS3. I'm having no real problems with it. Sniper shots to the brain are awesome. I wouldn't say it's worth $50 though. Maybe $25.

Kill cam is nice.

Stealth is shit. It's completely linear.

So, I guess it's not the game I'm looking for.

Back to setting up sniper missions in Arma 2.

I kind of liked the kill cam, but that'll get annoying after a few hours so I'll have to give it a miss. I don't really dig the sniper genre.

It's a game that's very similar to almost every other shooter but rather than focus on all aspects of warfare it's narrowed it down to one point and it doesn't do it any better than any other game.
It's a game that completely relies on it's killcam gimmick.

Personally I love this gimmick and will be buying the game because I know what I like and I know I will never get bored of blowing off a mans face from a mile away.

It won't be everyones cup of tea, but it's definitely worth a shot if you enjoyed the demo. Many games that have relied on a single gimmick have been incredibly enjoyable and I think Sniper V2 will follow.

I had no idea of this games existence, but having just downloaded and played it, I have to say it's pretty awful.
I played on the hardest difficulty, with all the bullet 'physics' on and stuff, and it made no difference, I compensated for the wind, but the bullets still went exactly where my crosshair was aiming. I also shot a guy through the throat and he didn't die.

For the kind of game they're going for (realism) I'd say 3rd person is a very poor choice, as you can see where people are without having to lift your sorry head over the cover you're hiding behind. I really don't think I'll be getting this game.

I left the game actually impressed (please consider that I have, literally, zero expectations). Probably going to buy it when it hist retail...

Its not something new, but I enjoyed the slower pace I got in the demo stage... And after fallout 3, I have to say: I don't think I will ever get tired of the killcam.

Not being able to tell if the soldier you hunt is clever or stupid is kinda refreshing actually, not all soldiers are the same. And better yet their patrol routs are not locked just like in real life.
