Since recent events have graced me with a ton of future free time, I've finally decided to dive into the Assassin's Creed series. My only question is whether I should start purchasing the titles for Xbox or Playstation. I've heard reports from both sides, saying the Xbox ones generally look better but the PS3 has some extra stuff. Taking the general quality and mutliplayer following of each platform into account, which would you say is the definitive version, overall?

Either one seems fine to me.

I have Assassin's Creed on Xbox 360 and Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood on PS3. Didn't see anything wrong with either copy.

I guess it says a lot that I immediately read "AC" as "Animal Crossing" and wondered what was wrong with you. :D

Both are fine. PS3 gets some extra content at the start but that comes with both when they release the preorder DLC to everyone for purchase. The exception being that AC revelations comes with the first game free if you buy it new on PS3. So if you want to save like ten to twenty bucks, buy a new copy of ACR if its cheaper than buying both games used.

I believe it is a multi-platform ip, and like some of the other posters said, everything is the same except for some DLC (story wise).

You can also get AC2 for free with your xbox live gold sub.

It's multi-platform,
Suggesting it is one or the other is quite simply untrue.

Edit: Misleading title is misleading. But the ps3 HAD exclusive dlc, dunno if it was timed or permanent exclusively though.

Its a multiplatform game, there is no "But in that one it doesnt feel right...", people pull that shit all the time with their fanboy shit, it happened with GTA, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, etc. Its like people dont want others to have fun.

It's always been a multiplatform series except for the handheld games, which have always been exclusive. I personally played most of the console games on the 360, and I got AC3 for Wii U.

I would tend to the XBox 360.

Or:

Since all those games run more or less on the same engine the result is more or less also the same. They look the same with small performance advantage to the Xbox 360.
If you care about those 2 - 4 FPS in some scenes then its the XBox 360. If you get a sweet deal for a certain platform then I would take that one.

However overall I suggest NOT buying AC at all.
Its not that good...

Yeah, it's always been a Microsoft franchise, like Sonic the Hedgehog and Uncharted.

Like others have said, it's really a multi-platform title.

This can be seen by the fact that while it lacks the first two titles, even the Wii U has Assassin's creed 3, (and is going to get AC4).

Then again, it's a Ubisoft title... Leaving aside the dick move they pulled with Rayman Legends... They've been very supportive of Nintendo in general...

Most of the notable 3rd party Wii exclusives were Ubisoft titles, especially at launch...

Ahem. Sorry, went off on a bit of a tangent there...

But anyway, it's a multi-platform title. - I suggest not worrying about it so much, and go with whatever versions you can most easily make use of.

I have never heard of there being any difference. I always played on Xbox, but I didn't have a PS3, so...whatever you want. If you care about like achievements or trophies that's really the only difference I could think of.

They're both identical, really. You certainly won't notice any difference while playing it.

However, more recent AC titles have multiplayer in them; and the PSN is free, while Xbox Live has some? features? I think? that make it better. Or at least everyone says so.

My only advice would be to not bother getting into the series unless you are looking to be seriously disappointed. Play Assassin's Creed II --on the PS3-- and maybe Brotherhood, then forget the entire thing ever existed because everything after that is an insultingly bad pile of arse.

Neither? It's a Ubisoft franchise. PS3 occasionally gets exclusive bits, like the Benedict Arnold mission in AC3.
