Poll: So Kinect is out...Better than expected or...let down like you thought?

So I like a majority of people who followed Kinect sense it was Natal. Did not expect much. However now that it's out, and after getting to play dance central. I gotta say I am kinda impressed. Now, considering there is no controller and YOU are the controller...there is obvious reason to fear a purchase due to lack of hardcore games. But thats not what this post is about

So the question is....Disregarding your personal opinion on the game selection...Does Kinect function better than you expected? Or, does it suck as much as you had expected.

I am still indifferent towards it, I may get it when prices are down but for now i am not trying it. But i went to best buy this morning and all the kinects were sold out and i have several friends playing it right now so it cant be that bad.

but i have to agree with your magic 8 ball. Most of the games out are kinda..Wii-like one could say. Now i won't lie, i want to give Dance Central a try..but I would rather get Kinect once they patch it some..and maybe solve the 8-ft of room issue.
But think of the possibilities..a mech game where you actually can interact with the cockpit? RPG's/FPS's/Fighting games where you could just pick something up and beat a guy to death?
a..now this may be nerdy..but a Star Trek game where you could actually control your dang ship? xD

so here's to hoping Kinect brings some more interesting games..and a situation where i could beat someone to death online with a rubber-chicken xD

It's better than expected... but my expectations were pretty damned low.

While the games are pretty awful at the moment, Dance Central is surprisingly fun and the vocal/visual recognition is creepily good. Brix were almost shat when my screen said Kinect wanted to get a better look at me, and the thing turned and panned up to look me in the eye.

Skynet isn't too far off, it would seem.

Eye recognition technology is nothing new. Lots of open source coding libraries do that easy.

But still, I think kinect looks fine at the moment. At least it's progressing technology a bit.

Just from the reviews I've seen, the general consensus is "pretty cool and sometimes works really well, but kind of shallow and sometimes repetitive."

So basically like the Wii.

I love it. Great fun and is a fun way to keep a conversation up since you can almost always stop what you're doing point at your friend and go "Ha you look more stupid than me."

Exactly. I played Kinect at a Best Buy, and I was surprised at how well it works. I even had a bit of fun...but I'm not spending $150 on the thing till it can prove it can handle some more lasting games. Kinect Adventures is great and all, but I'm not going to play it over, say, Halo: Reach.
