I've been wondering about what console to get since I've been on my PC for the last 4 years as a gaming platform. So I ask you, which one?

The PS3 technically has better hardware, but the real answer is dependent on which platform has more exclusives that interest you. Otherwise you're not going to notice a difference.

This is going to get ugly.

OT - research what games you're interested in and buy a platform based on that. There's no right or wrong answer here.

Hmmmm, well as I have a lot, lot, lot more friends who own a 360 and because Xbox Live has group chat, then I'd say 360. I feel it used to have better exclusives, though the margin has narrowed since then and now I feel it's more down to preference than anything.

Though despite this, I seem to have moved to PC gaming without realising I was doing it.

For personal preference, I preference, I like my xbox a bit more than my PS3. Although I do use my PS3 for specific genres [Fighting games mainly] I play shooters and RPGs on my 360. I also believe Arcade on the 360 is MUCH better than the PSN Store.

Edit: PC is also a good option for you, provided you use Steam. Great game deals, great games. The only problem I have with PC is that a lot of the time, it's pushing for graphics there and I normally just prefer good gameplay, not uber amazing graphics. Hell, I play Killing Floor most of the time.

This peace will not last.

And on topic: Your imagination will always provide the best gaming experience.

And on topic serious answer: Whichever one has the greatest amount of exclusive titles you're
interested in, that's how I make my console decisions.

Entirely this post.

OT: It's very much a matter of what type of game you're playing and what control scheme you are more accustomed to in my opinion.
The obvious choices for examples are, of course, FPS' and RTS', being perfectly suited for the keyboard/mouse setup we all know and love, although most of the time I feel that it depends very much on what you were brought up on.
Naturally because my entire childhood was the PS1 and, later on, the PS2 I gravitate towards the PS3 controller. It fits better in my hands and just feels more 'right'. When I posed this question to a friends of mine who has a 360, he couldn't comprehend how a PS3 controller could be easy to use at all, shortly before I noted how the 360 and PS3 controllers are essentially the exact same thing with more or less curves.
Another friend of mine plays exclusively shooters on the PS3. When I tried to get him to play BF3 on PC he was revolted by the controls. On the PS3 though? He's an ace sniper and point-man.

Really it'll always come down to preference and training.

I would decide by putting these in my hands one after the other. Unless you plan on using a wheel or a joystick most of the time.

In the case of console vs. PC, it's a matter of what games you want. If you like Disgaea or Bayonetta get consoles. If you like RTSs, you're better off with PC.

As far as 360 vs. PS3, it's a matter of Shooters vs. Everything Else. The 360 has heavily marketed itself as a console for TPS and FPS games, and that's what the controller feels better for.

PS3 isn't as good for shooters, since the triggers suck bad, but the lineup of exclusives covers more genres.

Wii is for people who have an unhealthy obsession with Link or Mario.

Atari is for everyone, period, and will always be the right answer.
I dunno man, I'd have to disagree with the shooter argument you posed. I can't remember the last proper FPS/TPS that used the actual R2 and L2 triggers for shooting since, as you said, they do suck bad for that kind of thing. Every shooter I've played in recent memory has used L1 and R1 for ADS and firing, since they're buttons, and buttons are just plain better for snap-on snap-off twitch shooting.

As you said though, it really does come down to exclusives. Do you like Halo or Killzone? Do you prefer InFamous or Crackdown? it really comes down to preferences.

If it did come down to multi-platform games though, I'd say go with the PS3, simply on the basis that it's online is just as strong as the 360 community, as well as being free to sign up and play.

I use my PS3 more than my 360, but I am a single player kind of person, I suppose if I liked multiplayer I'd probably use the 360 or a PC. That being said, there might be something gained from a lot of the PlayStation community not having a headset.

As I've learned from Journey, silence is golden.

I voted imagination, also what everyone else says, all about software. Pick the system that has the best games for you. Most of the 360 exclusives don't interest me, but the PlayStation exclusives do, so...
