Poll: So who here rents most of their games?

Now after being burnt so many times in the past, I've decided to rent most of my games now so even if I'm disappointed in a particular title my wallet is better for it and I've took comfort that yeah, it was worth the rent.

Now a few companies are excluded from this rule like Bioware and Bethesda (mostly because I primarily play their titles on the PC but also because I've never been disappointed). Now the company I've subscribed with are great, I always get new releases (well barring some console exclusives).

So, what say you?

I never rent games... If I want to play a game, I also want to support the industry, so I always buy.

I never rent games. I remember one place here in Iceland that used to offer games for rent, but they dropped it ages ago.

Yes - I can understand that, although OnLive seems like a good way to do that, but the way it's setup just annoys me.

I had Gamefly for a while, but mostly my XBox collects dust these days. I've found I just prefer to play games on my PC. If it weren't for my personal ban on Gamestop, I'd probably just trade the 360 in.

I used to but don't any more. Not because I don't support the idea but just because there aren't any rental places even close to where I live. The closest was a BlockBuster maybe a 20 minute walk away but, well, it was a BlockBuster.

Besides, with so many reviews, previews, videos, trailers, Let's Plays, etc. out there these days it's almost silly to say that you bought a game without already knowing what it's like before hand.

My real reason for renting was never really about quality, it was about value. Take the new Gears for example. I loved the previous games in the series and know I'd love to play the 3rd but, as someone who barely plays any multi player shooters, I could never justify paying launch price for something I'd be done with in 8 hours.

I have tried renting games before but where I am from, the rental fee is way too high and you have to rent out every day or you get a rental fee rather than just renting it out for two days or week. So, no. I buy all my games.

I'm PC exclusive. My strategy consists of only buying games that I am 100% sure I'll enjoy.

Plus, I'm pretty forgiving. I spend six bucks on a freaking sandwich, so you game simply has to be five times better than a sandwich (I rarely spend more than thirty dollars on a game). I'm pretty easily impressed, normally, so it's not hard.

Yeah, I rent games. All the time. It used to be for the normal reason that people rent things. If I have an intrest in a game, I'll rent it. Now, after buying Dante's Inferno and thinking "Wow, it would have been nice to include stuff from the poem in there" if it's a new IP, I'll rent it.

Renting costs are as high as buying some games used...I mostly buy console games used, and PC games off Steam during a sale. I'm kinda a hoarder. ^.^

I rent almost everything, because I only have about $40 a month to game on and I can crush an average 40 hour rpg in less then a week, which is not a good combination.

so yes I rent and I love gamefly, who is now also letting me play a bunch of PC game for free, most of them suck or my little laptop can't run them but it is the thought that counts.

I pretty much echo what everybody else has said. I don't rent, because:

1) I generally buy preowned, so I'm happy to take a gamble on a half-price or bargain bucket game.

2) And anyway, my gaming purchases are generally informed by getting sequels or games that are part of a series I know I like, recommendations from my gamer friends, and playable demos.

3) If I rented a game and found I liked it, I'd want it in my (physical) collection. Even in the unlikey scenario that I completed it and got 100% of side-quests and collectibles within the rental period, I'd still feel awkward about giving the game back - I'd want to put it up on the shelf, like a trophy.

4) Games rarely represent throw-away entertainment for me. I like to take my time with a good game. Knowing that I've got only 4 days to play a game would make me rush it and spoil my enjoyment.

5) And yes, damn good point, for the cost of one or two rentals, I could buy and own a preowned game.

I do quite the opposite. I just buy every game I want. If it sucks, oh well. trade it off to EBgames and get a discount on a game I know I will like. Life moves on.

I take forever to beat games so I never rent them. Then again even if I wanted to there's no nearby place to. If I'm not 100% sure I'm going to love the title I wait for it to go down in price and buy it cheap.

the last time i rented a game was about 10 years ago, although ive considered renting again recently because i usually finish games within 1-5 days.. so renting would be wayyy cheaper unless its a game i know i'll want to keep for a long time
