Poll: Some ideas for The Escapist site

1. Blogs. I hope it speaks for itself.
2. A live feed. A little thing on your profile which you can update and people can follow your live feed. Never miss a moment in the life of your "escapist" friends.

How does it sound? I would like the Moderators opinion too.

I agree there, to some extent, but I still like both ideas. The blog thing doesn't need to be an actual blog, but could be done in the style of the 'Journals' feature on Deviant Art. As for the Twitter-esque live feed, a lot of people here aren't on Twitter. Fine, a lot are, but not most, by any means. A live feed would then be good as a private thing between Escapists without getting the risk of public viewing and potentially could only be seen by Escapists on your friend's list. I quite like both ideas, personally. OP, try PMing a member of staff, maybe Virgil (IT Director), and making the suggestion directly. They might be interested, and I wouldn't blame them. Or maybe they'll hate it. Still, worth a try, and good luck

Well That sounds pretty much like twitter+random blog. It's already been done really, myself I wouldn't mind the blog part because I don't actually have a blog and this might not be a bad website to share one on. I don't think it would get enough attention from all the users though, that benig said there's not really a downside to adding it other than the fact that somone has to do the work necessary to get it up and running. You should PM the mods about it though, they wont see it if it's just lying around in this thread. Even if they do....I doubt they'll act on it without a large amount of people supporting it.

I think you are mistaking the Escapist for a social networking site.


I'd like to know what the staff think, but my opinion is that Escapist is better off without both. You just end up with mountains of angst, the occasional racist/homophobic/discriminatory diatribe and useless meaningless crap. All live feeds create is a convenient way to make an ass of yourself whilst blogs don't really open themselves to discussion.

OT: Nah. Like has been said, Twitter fulfills the live feed and is optional - I know I don't use it - and blogs seems a little pointless, I feel. You could link to anything like that in a profile, it wouldn't need to be on the site.

A better idea would be tags. I'm well aware that the news room and videos have tags, but why not forum topics. It will lower the chances of a repeat thread.

Me too, what if I had NeonBob or NoMoreSanity as my update friends?, have you seen there post counts? you'd be constantly fighting you ISP provider for bandwith.
