There's no real reason to try and compare genres. They all invoke emotions in different ways and their times of origin give them all radically different feels. All of their sounds and feels are unique to their genre, and it's wiser to simply enjoy them for what they are instead of pitting them in cage matches with each other. It's like telling someone that impressionism is better than abstract, poetry is better than prose, or chocolate is better than vanilla. They're both paintings, writing, or ice cream, things that produce certain emotions in people. The only difference is how it's presented. People have their preferences, sure, but saying that one is inherently better than the other is just asinine.
Personally I have a bit of everything on my iTunes. I get to enjoy much more music that way.
