Having grown up in Louisiana, I can't help but double take when I hear people say they don't like spicy food. This concept has always been fairly foreign to me. Personally, I don't ever seem to be satisfied with my own cooking unless my nose is running by the time I'm finished with my meal. I don't know why, but I don't know any other way, nor do I want to because it's delicious.

<color=blue>Say guys, how spicy do you like your food?

I like mine to be fairly hot, but not quite habanero hot (i.e. "Satan raping your mouth-hole" hot). Habanero made my tongue bleed. This is worrying, but what is more worrying is that I went back for seconds.

...Maybe I do like it that hot. Hm. I'll have to think on that one.

<color=blue>Ooh, by the way, have you ever had any pleasantly/unpleasantly noteworthy experiences with the spicy stuff?

I love spicy and hot food, but to a certain degree. If it is too hot then it is just unbearable to eat.

I go WILD with spices - Especially Chilli. I always add sauces though so it maintains its own flavor.

I love hot and spicy food. My family however, hates the stuff.

I don't get to cook very often because i just tend to spice everything up and they can't eat it..

I really like spicy food, but not if it's overpowering every other flavor in the dish. In my opinion, it should burn, but I should still be able to taste though.

My worst spicy food experience was while I was checking out colleges to attend. My dad and I both really enjoyed spicy food, but we have never tried whatever the "fireball stomach buster atomic whatever" flavor level offered a hot-wing joint. The kind you have to sign a waver for. Needless to say, we were completely unprepared for that level of spiciness, of the 12 wings we finished 3 and my mouth continued to painfully burn for several hours. Really the worst part was not the initial kick, but the lingering burn that persisted despite all conventional methods to stifle it(milk, yogurt, etc).

I've heard that many people enjoy spicy foods because they are addicted to the sensation of endorphins being released by the brain in response to the chemical pain in the mouth.

Personally, I order my food at MAXIMUM LEVELS of hotness.

I don't really have much of a taste for spice in foods.

I like a little on occasion and have been known to put a bit of cyan pepper into my pasta mixes for dinner parties but for the most part, strong spices like the OP mentioned just are too much for me.

Though when I went to New Orleans a few months ago, I did have some of the best spiced pasta ever, so yeah, spice can be good.

I love spicy food, but only if it has an amazing flavor to match. I can't stand that crap that's all heat and no taste.

EDIT: As for a funny story, my brother's friend went somewhere for vacation, and found a store that sold nothing but hot sauce. Each sauce was labeled from 1-10 (10 being the hottest) depending on how hot it was. He picked up a bottle of sauce labeled "7". When he finally got around to using it, he was crying as he ate it was so damn hot. His friends went to the same place about a month later and picked him up another bottle... labeled "11". He's afraid to open it.

Being in India for the past month forced me to like spicy food. Though there is this one instance when I bought a "Chicken Meal" from the canteen that made me swear to the high heavens that I won't be ordering that thing again.

hmm, hard to know...

First I will have to start eating food I guess, but I believe I would appreciate a certain level of spiciness in it.

Only if it's supposed to be spicy... I won't randomly turn some Spaghetti Bolognaise into Spaghetti Burn-ognaise. <-- LOL I MADE A FUNNY.

I do like spicy food that's supposed to be and I like my salsa and chicken wings to be medium spicy. Not too spicy, though, or it can be annoying.

I like spicy food. It is my opinion that adding chilli powder and a bit of paprika to baked beans is one of the greatest acheivements of mankind.

I love spicy food. However I'm quite specific. For example I'm not that big a fan of the kind of spicy food that originates from anywhere except South-East Asia. Singapore Chilli Crab is epic and Tom Yum Noodle Soup (Thai spicy food which is epic) I love. However I'm less of a fan (but still like) Indian spicy food and I'm not that big a fan of any European spicy food.
