Now this may seem an odd thread, out of its time, but I felt the need to post it anyway. Due to age there may be a whole lot of threads about this I missed way back when. Feel free to move if necessary Mods.

I have just finished watching Voyager again. Its taken awhile as any long running show would. Now I found it immensely enjoyable as a show. It has its faults, but I tend to ignore them over the very good episodes and a finale that made me, as a man, well up. Especially the Seven and Chakotay ending, which had me going 'awww' ever time there was a scene with them together.

This aside, I understand there are a lot of people out there who really dislike Voyager. A lot. Vocally. Could you explain why? Even something as trivial as 'I hated Neelix', a person I understood lots of Trek Fans didn't like.

Answers below if you wouldn't mind. There is a poll too, just for varieties sake.

The story was sub-par.
The captain stank.
The "Doctor" was a hologram that could hold things.
"Q" was in it.
There was a fugly chick with an eye tattoo with a back story more emo then other shows during that period

I actually liked it a lot to be honest.

Janeway was pretty stiff, but that was kind of the idea.

I don't see what was supposed to make Jeri Ryan (Seven) so sexy, but I think she played her role well. It came out before that emo shit was popular, so having a character empty and dry was something NOT OVERPLAYED at the time, and I sorta liked it.

Granted, I was a bit younger, but still.

The hologram doctor being able to hold things was very strange, but over time I just sort of accepted it.

To be honest, Neelix was one of the better characters of the show - he was a lot less flat than some, but of couse I liked Chakotay the most.

EDIT:

Of course, I find it sub-par to the original Treks, but much better than Deep Space 9. Never watched TNG enough to really know.

I grew up with that and Enterprise. I think it's a good show overall. I don't get how people think Seven is emo, Torres is way more emo by a long shot and I hated her for that stupid shit. There are some episodes that are more interesting than some, (E.G Omega Directive and The episode where the Pherengi take over a planet)

Probably the worst of the Star Treks, but ok still - could have been worse I suppose (i.e. the first episodes of Enterprise where they thought 'lets just make it porn with some sci-fi around the general area')

Star Trek TNG for the win! Better than Voyager in pretty much all aspects, although Voyager wasn't that bad. In comparison to Enterprise I personally liked Voyager better.

See, that is the thing that always mystifies me. Most trek fans I have talked to say that TNG didn't really become any good until the borg turned up. Even then it was pretty subpar most of the time.

How did it beat Voyager? Ok, so it had Data and Pickard. But other than that most of the time it was pretty average. Its attempts to deal with sex for example, were atrocious!

Didn't care for it. Like, at all.
And why is that, just out of curiosity?

I liked it, but I still prefer the Star Trek: TNG (Picard > all) and Star Trek: Enterprise series.

I only ever watched two Star Trek series completely, DS9 and Voyager. Of these, Voyager was the one I liked a lot more.

I find people's general distaste for Voyager odd; it was my favourite series. The basic principle, for one thing, gave the writers a lot of creative scope and I genuinely liked the characters.

I started out liking Voyager, and especially liked the parts about the Borg, but then it got stale for me and I dropped out before the last season even started.

I mean, it wasn't God awful, but it wasn't really good either.

I loved it. The rabid mass can say what they want, I think Kate Mulgrew made an exemplary job in portraying Captain Janeway.
And Jeri Ryan managed to act through that ridiculous costume, which is a testament to her efforts as well.
There's also Robert Picardo with his brilliant performance of "The Doctor", possibly my favourite character overall.
Indeed, Voyager was heavy with its focus on the characters, which is probably why I found it easier to coerce my otherwise rampant allergy to science fiction into submission.

Hmm; Some of the scripts were not so excellent; Then the whole stranded in Gamma-Quadrant story-arc had some logic faults in it (like taking the ship back from intruders on a regular basis) AND they did "destroy" the Borg as villains;

Overall though I would want to watch a "Voyager-esque" Trek show more, then a "Star Trek XI-esque" Trek show.

I liked it in the fact that I thought Deep Space Nine blew chunks. Voyager gave is 7 of 9 so it can't be that bad. ;) Mmmm, Jeri Ryan. So hot, smart and pretty.

The captain Janeway was all right. The rest of the crew was average. The ship was awesome and the idea of being trapped very far away from the Federation was a pretty good idea. It was written kind of clumsily IMHO but then I was never really a hardcore fan of the show.
