Steam-punk is a favorite of mine, and I'm a huge fan of very old-fashioned mechanical devices, something Steam-punk takes to the extreme ^^.

Steampunk, easily. They have the better hats! (mini-guns and stove pipe hats = WIN)

Also, it hasn't been used as much as cyberpunk, or at least it doesn't feel like it has. Just wait until Bethesda does a Steampunk game, then everybody will jump on the bandwagon (haven't you noticed the rise in post-apocalyptic stuff since Fallout 3?)

If I had to choose one or the other, I'd ultimately go with Cyberpunk, since I at least have some clue of what's going on. With steampunk... well I'm not very good with gears.

While Steampunk has a cool aesthetic, I think I'd rather live in a Cyberpunk universe since I'm better with computers than I am with machines.

Cyberpunk: I'll be the one wearing LED-Laced clothes similar to the armor of the Mass Effect universe. I like steam-punk but I prefer Cyber.

Really like the Cyberpunk aesthetic and atmosphere, so definately that. Steampunk also looks kinda cool (I mean they have the best part of Victorian-era fashion: Top Hats), but the tech from Cyberpunk just appeals to me more. I want to be a cyborg!

Although I'm waiting for someone to mention dieselpunk. I don't know much about beyond its somewhere between the two, so I'm not gonna pick it. Plus I do love Cyberpunk more. I want me some cyborg-eyes!

Seriously, I want them!

I don't really know what Cyberpunk is without loading Google. So I'm going to go with Steampunk for the top hats and the fact that everything is made of wood and gold.

Is the only real difference deciding whether you want to be part of the future or the past and how big or small you want your devices to be? And also whether you want them in you or you to be in them? Or am I missing the bigger picture here?

Anyway, that being said, I'd rather be cyberpunk. Much more possibilities to screw with someone's day up without them noticing (its hard to sneak up on someone with a steam powered mech suit but you can do it easily with an augmentation in your arm.

ooo thats a good question

honestly I know I can make steam-punk stuff, but I like the way cyperpunk stuff has grate potential depending on what I've seen of it,

but if I had to make a costume of only one I'd go steam

Anywhere that I can be a hacker and the greatest swordsman in the world... Or visit an orbital habitat full of Rastafarian's, or take on a church full of cybernetic monks, or digitize my consciousness.

Hell, lets just go with this:
