"Essential information to be from Texas. Right to bear arms, free speech, and we are better than any other state and/or country, Oklahoma is north Texas (they just don't know it) and Jesus will return at Ft. Hood, Cowboy hats can only be worn with cowboy boots and jeans, never with polo's."

I'm From Texas and I just always wondered what other people/states/countries thought about us and themselves. Mostly this is aimed at other U.S. states but I was just wondering. Or is it like here and people just generally not care about the other states? Or are just all texans so arrogant lol

An, it's Ok option would have been nice:p

I'm from Scotland and if I was to think of a Texas stereotype it would be very religous, gun nuts and all that jazz(or country should I say?:p). I know it probably isn't all like that but when someone says Texas that is what I think of:)

Sorry, that's the stereotype.

I'm sure that your average Texan is no different to anyone else in the world, but that's the narrow view.

I'm from America, and that's what I think.

When I think of Texas, I think of that cartoon King of the Hill, guns and their alleged hatred for anyone that isn't white, Mexican, anti-second amendment or straight. And this is coming from an American.

What do I think people think of Canada? We live in igloos and guzzle maple syrup. Also horribly misinformed.
What are ye talking aboot? We're awesome!

and we've elvolved! We hold our igloos together with melted-then-frozen polar bear fat! Inovationz for th' win eh?

Yeah, I'm from Montreal in Canada. It's always great when you have a tourist walk up to you and say (with a little shock and awe) "'Scuse ME Ser? Where might I be finding all them igloos I heards so much 'bout?"

I think the best way of dealing it is to just stare at them fro about 5 seconds before exploding into unbridled laughter

I like my country, but it's not the best in terms of "I was born here" because I make it great, but that I'm used to it.

Oh, and since this is a thread about Texan stereotypes:
Cue MadaraXIII rage in 3...2...1...

EDIT:
Texan stereotype: Gun wielding, farming, christian cowboys

English stereotype: Posh voice and loving of tea. People also confuse our stereotype for the Asutralian stereotype of saying "'Ello mate". I have a posher voice than most because I like my language and try to pronoucne it as best as possible. I do through in some slang occasionally for comedic juxtaposition. However our accents are very diverse.

And will Americans PLEASE stop attempting the accent. Even if you say it's nice because it's suppsoedly more melodic. I speak very monotonally on most occasions. IT ONLY SOUNDS MELODIC SINCE YOU HAVE TO PUT EXTRA EFFORT IN CHANGING YOUR VOICE TO ATTEMPT IT. You really only like it for the same reason everyone likes accents - because they're different to what you're used to.

Also, I DONT LIKE TEA! But yes, a lot of us do.

I'm from Ireland, and media would have me believe Texas is filled with drawling conservative cowboy wannabes.
Everyone has their own ranch and gun. The mentally challenged are put to death. Every other dude has a horse who he is disturbingly close to.

I know none of this is true, though. Texas is just a place, like any other. Filled with a whole variety of assholes.

Anyway, for the bonus poll topic, I am just going to mentally translate "state" into "county" and go from there.
Cork is a shithole filled with bad people and nothing to do. The accent is attrocious and intellectual pursuits are actively looked down upon.
It is the shittest county in the whole country and anyone who does not think so has Cork running through their veins so thick they shit farmers.

Eh, Texas? Cowboy hats, guns and barbeques, that's what pops into my head.

Norway here.

Hmm...no you pretty much got us. But, we're still awesome :D I LOVE Texas. We've got such a rich history, and (IMO) we're one of the most recognizable states in the union, perhaps the most recognizable. I mean, you can ask someone in China to point out Texas by how it looks...and probably someone could do it!

But seriously, whenever I think about stating my love for Texas, I think of...Grannin? Whoever the fat drunk guy that made Metal Gear was in MGS3. Where he holds out his arms after talking about how his country screwed him over and sincerely states "I love this country." I also think of it with the russian accent, but thats just because Russian accents are cool.

Your media talks about us specifically? I'm so flattered! We too, occasionally mention Ireland. Also, somehow editing became quoting myself and made a new post. 0_o?

I think of hardcore conservatives who own lots of land. Not to sound mean obviously, but they seem to be their own country seeing as their way of living and valus seems very different to other states. Funny though, I consider Alaskans "trying too hard to be Texans." They sort of act the same but they like to show it off.

Again just my observations, and stereotypes. I'm sure most of this is false.

Ha. Don't I fucking know it.
We are even more poorly represented than you guys. AND nobody fucking gets the accent right.

Anyway, I suppose our media, specifically, doesn't mention you guys. Most of the shows over here are English or American, just like any other country.
The odd irish show will be too focused on making Ireland specific in-jokes to mention anywhere else.

When I think of Texas, I think of Big Trucks(all the Texans in the military I know have them), Football is a Religion into itself, and that Hell is going to be exactly like driving through West Texas without any working radios, alone, forever.

The Dallas Cowboys are in fact America's team, because everybody in America hates them.

That makes Texas sound awesome to an extent. I think of Canada as America but colder and one part speaks french(Oh wait, New Orleans speaks french). I have been to parts of Canada and really didn't see a difference in the culture or architecture from America.

Judging by Team Fortress 2, everyone in Texas is a somewhat insane engineer who has chopped off their right hand and replaced it with a robot hand, and are constantly shouting about things being sapped.

In any case, I'm from Pennsylvania, the most historically significant state in the U.S's history.

But Pennsylvania stereotype: I'm guessing rural, gun-wielding, flag-displaying coal miners living in the mountains.

Hmm, according to this you're a redneck, hillbilly, yokel, and/or a sister-fucker. And I'm in the greatest place in the world. Sorry bub, the map doesn't lie.

Anywho, most New Yorkers would say that a Texan is a white inbred redneck that talks funny, carries a gun at all times (most likely a six-shooter), wears a cowboy hat, fierce Republicans that love Bush, is racist, very christian, hates gays and foreigners and etc.
Oh, and loves beef.

My grandfather was actually from Texas and I had a great great aunt that lived there too. Both were weird and crazy as fuck. (grandfather refused to pay more than $2 for a Christmas tree & tried warming his hands by the yule long that was on the TV; the aunt went 'quail hunting' when in reality she sat on her porch shooting passing cars.) And due to the fact that my grandfather talked funny (as a result of growing up in Texas) my mother in turn talked funny (even though she was born & raised in New York), which that in turn (along with her horrid country music) made me talk funny (despite living in New York my entire life).
