So the PS4 controller was recently revealed, and in a departure from the previous Sony controllers; it looks like it's actually comfortable to hold and play.
My only gripe is that they refuse to put the left stick up top, but many people like it that way.
How do you like your control sticks?

I prefer it to be symmetrical, the way Sony has always made their controllers. While I'm also fine with the layout the Gamecube/Xbox/360 have had, it's just weird to me for the controller to have asymmetrical stick positions. It doesn't feel as "natural" for my thumbs to be placed in different Y-axis positions on a controller.

I may just have small hands, but the Playstation controllers have always been comfortable for me to hold. Much more-so than most other controllers outside of possibly the Gamecube. Even the original Sega Genesis controller was too bulky for my liking, and I much preferred when they released a smaller, more rounded version.

Well, I voted "I don't use controllers for my gaming" but that's a lie - I don't use them for MOST games. In fact, I've only started using a controller several days ago when I started playing Dark Souls. I have a PlayStation type controller. I do like the symmetry, as shrekfan246 also said, but I've not much experience with either Xbox or PlayStation controllers, or others, for that matter.

I definitely prefer the way the PlayStation controllers are laid out, but that could easily be down to a lifetime of gaming on Sony consoles has left me too used to them. Whenever I use Xbox controllers it certainly feels odd having the left stick in a higher position. I just generally prefer my sticks down low, feels a lot more comfortable that way to me.

I'm fine with almost anything. I think my hands get less fatigued over time when using the 360 style pads though. I'd say the 360 pad is my favorite among recent controllers. Oddly, I don't currently use a 360 style controller. I play on a Logitech F310 (PS3 mold and joystick layout with 360 buttons). Use my DS3 on my PS3, of course.

The only controller I've truly disliked was the my old gigantic Logitech Wingman Wireless. That sand-filled boomerang was a bit too huge, heavy and awkward for my tastes. The slippery control sticks, abysmally inaccurate D-pad and spread out buttons with way to much resistance didn't help boost my opinion. My hands got sore playing that golem.

I prefer Xbox style, but that's because as a 360 owner I'm used to it. I don't have a problem with PS style, having been a Sony afficionado before getting the 360, and owning a PS2 that I've recently started playing on again (not got a PS3 yet though I'll have to buy one soon, especially since the PS4 isn't going to have backwards fucking compatability xP), but it's been a while and I'm still getting used to it again. Not that there's much to get used to, it's just having the D-Pad and Left Stick swapped over... As for N64, I never had one so I can't comment.

That being said, am I the only person around who actually likes the WiiU control pad? I think the touch screen can be very interesting if used properly, I played a demo in HMV of the new Rayman game on WiiU and it was pretty cool how the gameplay switched between touch screen and regular screen so smoothly and intuitively, it didn't take me long to get used to it and it added a new layer of challenge and uniqueness to an already awesome game. If this is where gaming is headed then I can honestly say that I don't mind, provided developers continue to be innovative and thoughtful about the way they implement such tools...

I prefer the Sony style. Although that's probably just because it's what I'm used to.

I can use a Xbox controller without difficulty, but it feels weird, like it expects one of my thumbs to be longer than the other.

I like the PS style more but the xbox's isn't something that I'd complain about, apart from the D-pad and the lower trigger buttons.

I prefer the PS style, probably because I've been brought up with that design my whole life. It doesn't make sense to me to have the analog sticks in different positions, but then I haven't had enough experience with an Xbox controller. The brief time I've tried them I didn't like that design.

Definitely the Xbox design. I guess having my thumb higher up on the controller is just more comfortable than holding both thumbs at 90 degree angles from my palms. Plus the 'legs' of the PS controller just seem more awkward to hold in that position.

And this may be a little OT but I prefer concave joysticks over ones topped with mushroom caps. Not a fan of the PS2 controllers.

As long as I'm not expected to use the sticks in tandem for some tank like controls (read Katamari), then I don't have a preference.

But, when I am playing Katamari, I'd want the sticks to be parallel, like PS2 and WiiClasic controllers.

I prefer the Xbox style, with the left up and horizontally opposite the face buttons (ABXY).

I find it's the most natural setup for all game in which you're not using both analogue sticks simultaneously, as when I hold the controller with my index fingers on the triggers and my left thumb on the left stick, my opposite thumb naturally covers the face buttons, which is better for me as most of the games I play use the combination of left stick + face buttons more often than they use both analogue sticks simultaneously.

The xbox style is growing on me, after my entire life was spent with Playstation controllers. I think the separation helps me mentally approach the different between M/KB and the console controller when it comes to FPS play, though that could be a load of bunk and just be based on what I'm becoming acclimated to through use.

The N64 was perfect for me .

The anologue stick to look/aim , the C buttons to straft/walk . The A/B for actions . The Z to shoot . The R/L to cycle weapons . The D-pad useless with that control scheme .

So long as there's two sticks I can generally make it work.
Fuck the N64 controller with it's "let's make this for spider children exclusively" design philosophy.

I like the PS2 style controllers, that's where I really started to actually care about consoles (PC Gaming Master Race) and while I had pretty much equal experience with both the PS2 controller and the original xbox controller my preference leans toward the PS2 style to the point where when I went looking for a gamepad for my PC I came up with the Logitech Dual Action that has the exact same configuration.

On a separate controller for my left hand attached with a cord, or with none at all.

agreed on all this. concave for the win, there are so many key moments where i was rotating the joystick a ton and my thumb would be caught in a weird position on the ps3 controller, damn convex joysticks!

one reason that i like the different positions for the analogy sticks, is that say i need to use the d-pad, but i'm in the heat of the moment, it's much easier for me to move my guy around while switching weapons/grenades with my right thumb reaching over (what the dpad is usually for) than to completely stop my guy and have him just standing there while i'm switching with my left thumb (if i was using the ps style sticks i would HAVE to use my left thumb to reach the dpad)

also, damn sony for not having concave triggers on the back, they even sold them as attachment for the ps3 controllers, just get it right dammit >_<

I find either of them absolutely fine. Probably 'cos growing up I had a PS1 and then much later a PS2, but I'd always play xbox at friend's houses.
