do you use subtitles?

i only use them if i really have to, else i'll read them before the person can finish and skip to the next sentance, and i feel that i miss something then.

It depends on the level of immersion I'm looking for. On games like Mass Effect and Heavy Rain, I avoid them.

On poorly acted JRPG voice-overs...they are a requirement.

Always, I can pay attention to the action and use the subs as a reference if I mis-hear something. Only for video games though.

I always do as my TV is in the same room as PC and other stuff so cant always hear it clearly. Plus I like having them in case I cant understand the voice at some point, then dont miss anything. Though oddly enough I dont like having them on when watching DVDs

It depends on how good the sound is. If the sound quality is good enough to hear everything perfectly the subtitle usually just disturb me from the thing that's actually going on. I end up reading (I can't not read whenever I see letters and a language I know) and that might be a distraction.

I always have subtitles on, even when watching something in English.

If i can then yes, cause sometimes it can be hard to hear what they're saying.
But most of the movies i watch are of a less legal status than DVD's and the ones i get are rarely with subtitles.

I keep them on, because I generally have no control over the noise level around me, and I hate missing dialogue in case it's interesting or useful. I can also read about twice as fast as the actors in most games speak, so I can get through the game marginally faster with less boredom (I find it intensely boring to listen to someone speaking a sentence I just read for myself).

Sometimes, usually only when I am watching stuff in other languages. Like when I watched Death Note in Japanese before the American version was done. L sounded way better speaking Japanese than English, and I miss hearing Yagami Lighto. It just sounds weird hearing it in English.
