http://penny-arcade.com/report/article/the-most-epic-super-smash-bros.-match-ever-proves-the-game-isnt-just-for-bu

This particular article got me reminiscing about my own matches in melee, as well as brawl and the original, but I was also curious about any good stories that you folks might have? They don't necessarily have to be real close, hardcore matches, just anything you think might be notable for being funny, or hard to believe, or just plain cool.

This isn't a very uncommon scenario, but when both my friend and I were both down to just one life, I inhaled him (I was playing as Kirby) and walked us both off the ledge and into oblivion. I know it's a trick that gets done a lot, but it's just so much fun when a game gives you a method to screw over someone in a way that will leave them raging and laughing at the same time.

My brother once faced a guy who kept trash talking everyone at a gathering about fighting games and claiming he could easily beat us at even Smash Bros. (the one we were good at). It wasn't long before we realized the guy wasn't as good as he claimed, so my brother decided to pick Kirby to which the guy responded, "Aw, come on! Kirby sucks!" Well, my brother as Kirby did suck the guy's character in and suicide when the guy only had one life left (brother had 4). He just stared at the screen for a while before getting up and never playing it again. He still hasn't even tried to get back into the game after that, at least not with my brother around.

Also, there was one time my brother and I were playing doubles with me as Kirby. Needless to say, I was having a really bad game, but my brother made up for it by taking care of one guy and getting the other down to one life (he had 3 left and I only had 1). I decided to go out in style by suiciding with Kirby's down B while me and the final opponent were off the map. The end result was that I launched him so hard against the map that he flew out of it before I fully completed the suicide attempt. Also in doubles, my brother and I like combining Meta Knight and Pikachu's spamming moves. If synchronized correctly on the right map, it's near impossible to get out of.

Still, nothing beats the night in Melee where I spent the whole time playing as Fox. Eventually I decided to switch over to Mario and easily fell behind because I kept trying to play like Fox. Once I got back in the mentality for Mario, I pretty much easily took care of the other opponents. Of course, they never did bother to accept that I beat them up, claiming that they stopped focusing on me and killed each other off before I came in for the scraps and that I camped away from the action the whole time. Never did bother to explain how I stayed in the action all the way and easily had the most KOs though.

On Brawl I built a stage that was a giant closed box (with spikes an moving platforms and the like) and got some of my friends to play it with me. Since we couldn't die, we got to the point where a single light hit would send us bouncing around the map like crazy. Got boring fast, but it was fun while it lasted.

Thinking about the good times I had with that game almost makes me want to ge the Wii U so I can play the new SSB game. Almost.

Original was too rough. Good for the time, but the most basic of 'em all.
Fucking loved it, though. I broke my leg around the time it came out, so the memories of me in a cast are indefinitely tied to that title. The intro gives me goosebumps to this day, and I recall Mario/Fox/Ness being my mains.

Melee is by far my favorite to this day, featuring that "feel" that just feels...right. Everything is fast and has a nice amount of gravity pulling down on it. Damage launches people the right way. I played Fox/Link/Mario/Marth/Captain Falcon like a pro, while Ness was my "fun" character. I think I wore out a few GCN controllers with this title, and probably have a few months worth of time on it over the years. When the game was released, I was suffering one of the worst flus/fevers of my life.

Brawl was okay. Felt too floaty to me and a few characters were blatantly broken beyond belief, but definitely playable and enjoyable. The singleplayer was interesting, as was the method of unlocking a bunch of stuff. For this title, I played Toon Link/Mario/Lucas/Ness/Olimar/Captain Falcon the most. And hot diggity was Olimar fun/cheap to play as. When this game was released, I was almost hit by a car and lightning.

So with all that said, I'm quite excited about the next one.
Looks like it has Brawl's floatiness, but they've removed tripping and I can't quite comment on it due to not playing it or seeing too much of it. I'm quite confident that Villager and Megaman are going to be some of my mains, but no guarantees on the others given how they're shuffling movesets. Oh, and here's to hoping that the release of this game isn't the end of me! It's kind of creepy how each subsequent release is tied to an escalating level of misfortune...

NightmareExpress: Sorry to hear about your misfortunes, but fear not! Recently I've been homebrewing my wii, and I stumbled upon the best mod for consoles I've ever seen. Project M (http://projectm.dantarion.com/index.php) really improves the gameplay of Brawl by making it feel more like Melee! Bunches of fun, and you don't even need a hacked wii for it.

Neither my friend nor I had ever owned Nintendos before, but he got caught up in the Wii craze and we used to play Brawl all the time when it first came out.

Neither of us had experience with this franchise, and so the very first time we played it, we both went random, ultimately agreeing that the loser of each match would have to keep going random while the winner could stick with his character if he wanted. I ended up drawing Fox; he drew Metaknight.

We eventually arrived at the conclusion that either MK was overpowered, or my friend was some kind of SSB prodigy. In retrospect, that first matchup was patently unfair, but as a result, he got to keep playing MK until I was able to beat him with a random character. It took me at least two dozen tries to do so, but I count that first victory among my greatest gaming achievements of all time. And with Lucas, of all characters.

I like the original the most because I played it with my friends, the two newer ones were mainly just me vs the computer.

And that is why Meta Knight was since banned from tournament play.

I never had much fun playing randoms in Brawl/Melee, because I really suck at fighting games. My favorite characters were Ganondorf, Ness, and Zero Suit Samus.

Melee, its the fastest-paced and the hardest to get good at.

The original is fun and all but if you're up against somebody who knows what they're doing you can get comboed into oblivion.

SSBB, me and my brother were tag teaming a guy who was left on his lonesome in a 2v2, and he kept meteor cancelling every time, so we tagged out for every meteor smash, me, then him, then me, and so on for like 15 seconds. On the final hit, I went down there with him and meteor smashed right after my brother did, so I hit him right after my brother connected. We simply smashed him straight downwards screaming our heads off at how annoying it was that he was still there, like the fly in your room that seems to evade every swat you try, until you finally catch the bastard with the fly swatter and SLICE HIM IN TWO, SPLATTERING HIM AGAINST THE WALL!

I used to play brawl on a livestream with some people . I mained as kirby and zelda . I used to ALWAYS lose . Then one time , we did a " game and watch " match where everone chose game and watch. So the match goes on on livestream as usual . And i was winning . 20 second before the match was going to end , the stream freezes and i end up winning . The ONE time i come in first , the game freezes and no one in chat believes i won .

Sometimes life is cruel.
