I loved oblivion and morrowind, and skyrim will hopefully be more of the same. Dragon age: origins was good, but it doesn't hold a candle to the elder scrolls.

DA2, if only because it's coming sooner.

Once we're a little closer to TES:S, my excitement will go up, but I don't really get that up for games that are about a year away.

I always prefer single main over parties, so it's Skyrim for me.

Although I'm looking forward to Two World's II more than either of those.

I'm looking forward to Dragon Age II because it contains the word "dragon." That makes it slightly more dragony than Skyrim, even though that will doubtlessly also include dragons. I'm assuming both of them will have swords and while their swords will differ slightly in their design and composition, both will be equally swordy in their own ways.

Other than the dragons and the swords, I don't see why we're comparing these two.

TES V: Skyrim, simply because it's an Elder Scrolls. And the fact that I'm not waiting for Dragon Age 2 (though DA:O was awesome). I am however anticipating Mass Effect 3 more than I am Skyrim.

If I could vote twice I would. I came in at Morrowind with TES and loved it, and I really like Dragon Age and Bioware. Now considering I love games with story this is pretty tough for me, but If I had to choose, It'd be Dragon Age II.

Like my friend always says: Birds gotta fly, fish gotta swim, and Bioware's gotta make great stories.

Other than dragons? Since when did there have to be anything other than dragons?

Seriously though, I figured they were both popular fantasy RPG series' made by some pretty decent developers! They seem to have a fair bit in common, and so I'm wondering why people like one over the other. :D

Freeroaming open world action-FPS-RPG with hundreds of hours worth of playtime VS linear generic fantasy TPS-RPG? No competition here, Elder Scrolls all the way!

I'm casting my line towards Dragon Age II.

Dragon Age is coming out a year before Skyrim. Sure I'm excited for it, but Dragon Age is so close!

I'll be getting them both. Though it's hard to say Skyrim doesn't have me more interested.

I've waited far longer for the next Elder scrolls. But it seems like I just got Dragon Age Origins last year... wait, I did.

Both, they are two very different games, even though they both fit the RPG genre description.

Fair enough, good sir! Now that I've purged my snark...

I'd like to be more excited about Skyrim since I've played every TES since Arena and what I've heard of it so far sounds very good but the fact remains that we still don't know very much about it. I'm going to reserve my judgment will we get some more details.

I honestly wasn't all that thrilled with Oblivion. It was a great game and I got a lot of fun out of it but it all felt so vanilla. Remember in Morrowind, where you wore armor made out of "bonemold" and the mass transit system was powered by ridiculously huge insects someone hollowed out? That was awesome! It was unique!

In Oblivion they threw out everything that wasn't Tolkien except for a few fancy words and sold it in order to hire Sean Bean, whom didn't make the game any better for me in the first place. Now I don't imagine Nordland is going to buck that trend, seeing as it's literally the whitest place in the entire gaming universe and also where they invented bread (definitively white bread)... and that's why I'm not ready to call it. I might be wrong. I'm hoping I'm wrong.

In the end I know I'm going to get both and I'm going to spend more time with Skyrim because that's how I roll. BethSoft games - or more specifically Gamebryo games - tend to be extremely moddable which means there'll be progressively more for me to do in progressively less clothing and with progressively huger boobs. Dragon Age 1 has mods as well but it'd be difficult to call them equivalent, even if Dragon Age 1 looks objectively better than Oblivion.

So we'll see. In the meantime I'm going to amuse myself by remembering how Fallout 3 was criticized as "Oblivion with guns" and now Skyrim looks like it'll be "Fallout 3 with dragons."

I really didn't like oblivion, there was like million things wrong with it. Morrowind was very good however. So I don't know what to think about skyrim. If it is going to be another oblivion I won't like it, and I am sort of expecting that it will be.

I aren't very pleased with what I know about dragon age 2 either however. It seems bioware is making the game into a dragon effect 2 and I don't like their preorder crap either.

However Bioware always tells a good story and therefore it wins for me.

Well, I found Oblivion to be an average game but I loved Dragon Age, so...

Skyrim. Dragon Age 2 looks like they've changed a lot of what was in the first so, while I will still get it, I think it'll be a lot worse than Skyrim and Origins.

Skyrim, although Dragon Age 2 looks good as well. But Oblivion and Morrowind are 2 of my favorite games of all time.

Well I suspect with March madness bringing in non regulars we will see little faux pas such as necroing and some rudenessess here and there, kind of to be expected really.

Even with DA2 now being released I would still be inclined to go with DA over skyrim. I know this is pretty much in the minority but honestly when I look at dragonage vs the elder scrolls I see similarly weak and repetitive combat systems and yes that includes the "better combat system" of DA2. The distinctions are fairly small between the two of them.

I think TES may have a deeper combat system than DA, but what does a deep combat system matter when morrowind, Oblivion, DAO and DAII all have repetitive grindy and painfully easy combat?

Only thing I can see really setting them apart is the narrative which I fully believe that Dragon age is vastly superior to TES. I will put it this way, out of the TES series I have worked through the only narrative elements I found truly enjoyable was the murder mansion quest and the shivering isles expansion for oblivion. Dragon Age is more like a book than a game. I played Origins through four times and technically I need to do a 5th playthrough in order to work through all the DLC content past return to ostagar and then link it to a second DA2 playthru. I would rather scoop my eyeballs out with a rusted spoon and then skull fuck myself in the hollowed out sockets with a dildo made out of hardened bleach than to play through morrowind or oblivion a second time now that I know the story of both games and knowing a second playthrough would not really yield much in the way of any new narrative insights. Dragon age you can genuinely have a different experience with each playthru. Granted the differences are small, but it is absolutely a step in the right direction.

Dragon age 2 over skyrim in my book without question.

Your immolation aegis can't rebound this fiery beat-down of words.

This is interesting to me, because for me it is the reverse. Dragon Age definitely had a better written story than Oblivion, but the prospect of playing through it again just to change the narrative a bit doesn't really appeal to me. In fact, choosing the narrative yourself becomes a kind of meta-game (heck, it's even rewarded with achievements) and this takes a lot of the emotion out of the story for me. I think I would have enjoyed Dragon Age more if it had a linear story and just kept all the best parts. This makes for an epic, heart-wrenching tale without pulling me out of the narrative to make sure I get my 'chievos or ponder the reality that isn't the 'real' story. As for gameplay, in Dragon Age it doesn't change a lot even if you make very different class and party choices.

Oblivion's story was linear and wasn't... well, it's not memorable. But the game keeps my interest because the gameplay is so diverse between classes, races and birthsigns. There is also a ton to do. I just find it interesting that between two apparently similar games, we each find one engaging and the other forgettable because of their approaches to diversity of gameplay and narrative. Different strokes, you know.
