Right so basically I wanna pick up a shooter and quite frankly I only have two in my mind Borderlands 2 and Far Cry 3 but hey for discussion why not tell me, what is your favourite shooter of 2012 and which should I pick up?

Just letting you know I'm more of an RPG fan which is why Borderlands and Far Cry appeal more to me...and Dishonored is a different kind of FPS so I'm not including that.

I'd toss my bet in with Borderlands 2. I haven't even played it yet. I have heard that it's basically Borderlands 1, only with more. I'm okay with this. Don't fix what isn't broke, y'know?

Pretty have it down, Farcry 3 and Borderlands 2 are very worth your money. Both are really good games but I find Farcry 3 falls a little flat the closer you get to the end. Borderlands 2 however doesn't reach Farcry's high but never touches Farcry's lows , more evenly good all the way thru.

Well the Title of your thread/poll is different from the message in your post...

For best on your list: Call of Duty Black Ops II: I play CoD constantly and I really enjoyed the single-player. If you liked the other "modern" games, you'll like this one. If you don't, it'll do nothing to change your mind.

For you: Borderlands II: I found Far Cry 3 incredibly over-rated (granted though, I don't care for open-world games so I kind of knew I wouldn't care for it going in. It's not bad but it's not even top 5 for 2012 for me). I have yet to play Borderlands II but from what I've heard from everyone, it's Borderlands only better. Borderlands was a great game if you had a friend along so I presume the same for it's sequel.

For best not on your list: Spec-Ops The Line: Yeah, it's a third person but I don't care. Spec-Ops was an excellent story with an OK game attached to it but it's well worth the $10 that it keeps popping up at on sales.

Borderlands 2 is awesome, I've almost four days played on my main Assassin class.

It's my personal GOTY

Damn that is a sad selection, some more important titles:
- PlanetSide 2 (sci-fi Battlefield with a persistent world and x100 scale)
- Tribes: Ascend (the Dark Souls of FPS right there, prepare to die...)
- Ace of Spades (Minecraft + Team Fortress + craziness)
- Natural Selection (Aliens vs marines in the tightest format yet)
- Primal Carnage (humans vs dinosaurs, who really deserve to rule the planet)
- Mechwarrior Online and Hawken (double teaming your mecha itch)
- Blacklight: Retribution (for the odd times when you really feel like playing CoD, but in this case you don't need to spend a cent)

Best one for me is clearly Hawken, yes their entire art team is color blind but hey those people need jobs aswell, apart from that is it the craziest FPS experience you can get this year.

I was a bit hesitant to pick Borderlands at first because I don't think of it as a straight up FPS. But then I saw you're into the RPG side of it so yeah, BL2 is what you want.

A few reviewers have commented that the single player isn't as good as the multiplayer, which is true, but I thought it was a good single player game regardless. For one thing, the multiplayer tuning made the single player game quite a bit more challenging than in the original, which was a big plus for me. Still, if you can play through it with a friend then you should do.

TF2.

Oh, you want one that was released this year? CS:GO.

Wait, I'll better go by your list: Darkness 2.
I was going to put CS:GO on there actually but from what I've seen it's pretty much unchanged from CS and I'm not all that keen on that one honestly

Was going to put Spec Ops originally with my writing....then I decided to put FPS and so yeah, but yeah I wanna play that game so bad

Right wow, all these are PC right? Would explain why I've only ever actually heard of them...and even then some of them I'm completely oblivious to. Ace of Spades my mate told me about and I've been interested ever since buuuuuut I'm afraid I'm a console gamer and hence the poor selection.

See I rented Borderlands 1 way back when it came out and a bunch of my friends were playing it and it was great fun, thing is playing it on my own was terribly boring. I have played bits of Borderlands 2 on my own and it seems better which is why I am interested in it more than Far Cry at the moment, which didn't meet its potential with 2

I see Borderlands in that sort of "hybrid" group that Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas fall in to, so I don't really include it in FPS rankings. It really mucks things up because, would you consider the Elder Scrolls series to be an FPS? But, that's another thread all together.

Halo 4 gets my GOTY (look, I haven't played many things that came out recently), if not wholly for the campaign. I wasn't expecting a story this good from a Halo game. It succeeds where most FPS games fail, and that is intertwining a good story in with gameplay.

No option for Natural Selection 2? Its not just my best FPS of 2012 but my game of the year overall. From the list you provided I'm going to say Borderlands 2 or Far Cry 3, probably Borderlands 2 is a little bit better.

I voted Far Cry 3 since I only just picked it up 2 days ago I'm having an absolute blast with it compared to Borderlands 2 seeing as how I am rewarded for using stealth and tactics other than the only option most FPS's give you with going in guns blazing.

Halo 4 was good enough for me since the last Halo game I played was 3 and the current multiplayer is still good for a few rounds of fun with friends.

I'm gonna get hate for this, but I like Black Ops 2 the most.(Let thy hate mail begin) I was more engaged by it's plot, thanks to the branching paths, and thought it was doing things different than most other shooters released this year. I got to sky dive with a jet pack, pilot a jet, control robot drones, and so much more. I'm not saying it was perfect, Spec Ops mode can go to hell, due to the bad teammate A.I, but I was just more impressed with that game than anything else. I'm not really into Borderlands, I found Far Cry 3 dull with in the first few minutes, The Darkness 2 was great till it the last hour or two where it got difficult fast. Halo 4 was a solid game, but I felt not enough new was brought to the table. I loved the the new vehicles and the jet sequence near the end, and the story was well made, but I felt the developers were playing it too safe and the new villain was the worst the series had.

I'm gonna go with Black Ops 2 mainly because zombies. I didn't like Borderlands or Farcry much, I just want endless enemies to shoot at. Don't distract me with lots of numbers or good looking scenery!

I haven't played any of those...I would think Far Cry 3 would be the best though whereas Darkness 2 would be my personal favorite. I'll repost once I've played them but they would definitely be in my top-2. Nothing against Halo 4 but when I get around to playing that it'll be for the Mantis and other vehicle sections.

I'd go for Tribes: Ascend or Natural Selection 2. Let's be honest about Planetside 2. It's a vehicle game first.

natural selection 2... imagine being a commander and ordering your troops (aka humans) to go and kill the enemy in certain locations. it involves strategy and fps (the best of both worlds)

Out of that poll and what you've specified in your OP? Definitely either Far Cry or Borderlands.

Borderlands 2 is a little more RPG than Far Cry 3 is, at least from what I've seen (having not played FC3 myself), so if you like the RPG elements more than an open world shooter, then it'll probably keep you more interested.

Honestly though, I'd probably choose either Halo 4 or The Darkness II. And the only reason I'm not really going to recommend The Darkness II in this instance is because the campaign can be cleared in six hours. While it's a damn fine campaign and there are extra things to do along-side it, it's still a bit lackluster overall.
