Poll: The Biggest Shocker in Force Awakens

Someone will die in The Force Awakens. No, Not some red shirt we only meet in the first half. Someone important is going to die. The only proof I have is the trailer where Luke puts his hand on R2 in front of a fire, a fire that I suspect is a funeral pyre. Luke is going to absent from most of the movie, coming out of hiding at the end. And what better way for him to be drawn out then with the death of someone close to him? The odds are strongest in favor of either Han or Leia (Han being the biggest impact and Leia being the biggest name but also the least useful) but who do you think will go?

Updated: I did not include Luke because there's no way in hell they hide the big hero in the original series for most of a movie only to kill them off, although that would be a good twist with the girl being revealed as his daughter and she loses her hand to be replaced with a metal one in keeping with family traditions. But seriously, even if he does die, they're going all Obi-wan with his ghost.

Correction: The biggest shocker in Force Awakens would be if no one dies.

I can't be the only one that thinks this is pretty much a guarantee.

Poll is insufficient, as Luke isn't up there. Luke seems most likely, as I don't think Mark Hamill has his heart really in it, and having a big bad ass Jedi who can supposedly go man to man with any Inquisitor kind of steals the new cast's thunder.

I would says either Han or Chewie-

I read somewhere that Han was supposed to died in The Empire Strike Back and it would had been more meaniful kinda like how Obi Wan was supposed to died to make Luke stronger (he can't rely on a more experienced Jedi).

Chewie died in the comicbook in the most epic way and people were pissed about it. In saying so the movie is somewhat consider canon to the expanding universe so his fate could be spared.

Luke is like, 68. If New Hope's Obi-Wan is any indication, aging human Jedi don't exactly get more spry.

My guess is Han...I seem to recall there were plans for him to die, and Ford always thought he should've died. Seems like everyone is super keen on him dying, and I wouldn't be remotely surprised if a Han death was one of Ford's conditions for appearing in the film.

Well Palpatine was pretty spry! I think the spryness or lack thereof wasn't a detail they really thought of in regards to being consistent.

He wasn't spry at all! He was tottering all over the place. He pretty much just had the one force lightning trick. A half dead Vader picked him up like a sack of potatoes and all he could do was flail around and moan like the septuagenarian he was.

I mean in the prequels. Gotta include those if we're trying to gauge what to expect.

Bearded? I don't quite recall but if we're thinking of the same scene I remember seeing her over what looks like someone with Finn's jacket in a place that looks like the cold forest area where he looked like he was gonna fight the guy with the red lightsaber

Prequels?

Whatever are you speaking of? There were only three Star Wars movies.

See I can see why people would do that when it comes to thinking of what they like as canon, but when you're doing that for what to expect in the future you're just liable to give yourself some false hopes I think

Come now, if people want to make jokes about Mr. Abrams blinding us with lens flare before the end of the first act, they are free to do so, as it's a reputation he's earned. But he's not a clown, and as such we should not be expecting the efforts of a clown when we go to see this film. Thus, I do not consider six hours of clown show to be representative in the slightest of something I can reasonably expect to anticipate.

If elderly Luke Skywalker is flipping around and screaming ala Yoda/The Emperor in the prequel films, I will eat a hat. A fancy hat. With sequins.

He's slumped cause he's shot. Slumped don't mean dead. But seriously, updated the OP to reflect why no Luke.

But he might take some cues in regards to action from them. I mean they don't need to flip everywhere but if he's going to consider what Luke can do I don't think he's going to ignore the prequels.

I think you'd there find there was likely significant pressure to "ignore the prequels" as cinematic influences. They've gone out of their way to market the films as a call back to the original trilogy, and while they are not directly throwing shade on the prequels the implications are pretty clear.

While the prequels had some bad action scenes, they also had the best.

They had long, tension-free CGI apocalypses. I wouldn't credit them with anything past that. But I digress, this thread is not for prequel bashing, and it's a subject where we could literally go on until the heat death of the universe.

Its still totally gonna' be Luke. They need to have a cheap 'feels' moment and its either that or killing R2D2. And Luke is the easier, more plot-centric target.
