Is the glass half empty or half full?
Yes.

The question is asking you if it is true that the glass is half empty or half full. It doesn't specify either.

It's like when some one asks "Do you drive a truck or van?" (Your answer) "Well, that sucks for you, because you can't park there."

Actually the glass is neither full nor empty. It is a perception of a collective entity by an entity experiencing itself subjectively with no limits in life and not restricted by time. In short the glass does not exist so it cannot be either half full or half empty.

No, the answer is: "Who cares? They mean exactly the same thing, so what does it matter what words you use to descride it?"

Half Empty, because it's not getting any more full.

And I have a strange feeling that this has been done before.

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

The egg, which turned into a chicken. The egg was laid by an animal that was remarkably similar, but genetically not quite, a chicken.

To be honest, the whole glass half-full/empty thing is not designed to test what the majority use it for (including the OP). I'll dig up my old psyche textbooks to give ya the correct use of this test after work, if any are interested.

I think it is meant to test weather you are an optimist or a pessimist, but what if you are a realist? Hence the yes answer.

Another question:

Saying the glass is half-empty is usually considered pessimistic.

Why is pessimism bad? If you think the world is bad, and has problems, you will try to fix those problems, which is much more productive than optimism

Also, if your personality is determined by your genetics and upbringing, isn't not liking pessimistic people as bad as racism, because you are judging them based on something beyond their control?

Not really, a realist would say that the cup is half-water, half-air. It's both half-empty, and half-full.

That's what I was saying, is that it is both.
