Intro:
Right, Let me start off by welcoming you into what I hope could become the first of a long running series, The Eclectic Music Lovers Guide. I believe that bland and processed music is getting far too much publicity these days and the charts rarely contain anything of any worth. A lot of great, original songs pass everyone by. I feel that this isn't right and so I've decided to remedy this with a little guide to some of the best music in each genre. People have often remarked upon my eclectic taste in music and find it odd when they see Richard Strauss next to Rage Against the Machine on my iTunes. I try to disregard my previous preconceptions about genres and judge a song as a song rather than label something as a certain stereotype and not give it a chance. Each Guide will consist of about 20 songs and will only feature one song per band. Now, on to the disclaimer.

Disclaimer:
I must point out that my opinion is not the be all and end all of the music industry and people will continue to listen to Lady GaGa and Scouting for Girls while this little article goes mostly unnoticed, collecting e-dust somewhere in the depths of the internet. I am an open minded guy and if you want to argue a point, please do! I am all for people telling me what should be on the list and if I agree with you then I'll be happy to add it. So remember, This is simply my opinion an is not in any way fact, everyone likes different things and I just want to share my tastes. Lastly, the songs are in no particular order and should not be taken as a worst to best or vice versa.

So without further Ado, Round 1: Electro

# - Artist - Track - Album

#20 - Alex Gopher - Brain Leech(Bugged Mind Remix) - Alex Gopher

This track should be familiar to anyone who's ever turned on the "electro choc" station in GTAIV and its warm melody and mashed up lyrics compliment the large buzzing bassline and sampled drums. This is definitely one to play loud.

Similar songs from the same artist to look out for: the regular version of Brain Leech

#19 - Justice - Phantom (part 1 and 2) - Cross

Everyone knows that the best electro comes from France (ahem, Daft Punk?) and Justice are no exception. From their debut album "Cross" this two part epic has it all; Great drums and a furious bassline mixed with some wonderful orchestral strings and muted guitar really brings it together as a whole.

Similar songs from the same artist to look out for: "Planisphere", a 24 minute ride featuring... what else? A Harpsichord!

#18 - Simian Mobile Disco - Sleep Deprivation - Attack Decay Sustain Release

This one's a bit slower than the rest but it packs just as much punch with its indescribably funky melody and its steady bass. I find it great for playing Wipeout HD.

(Something I happened to notice while messing around with it in audacity is that it also sounds great backwards!)

Similar songs from the same artist to look out for: "We are your Friends" (Justice vs. Simian)

#17 - Loco Dice/Martin Buttich - City Lights (Martin Buttich Remix) - Sessions, Vol. 8.1 (Mixed By Meat Katie)

What can I say? There's a fair bit going on here with a simple little melody in the upper registers adorned with some lovely little Organ bits. This is all accompanied by a large, but somehow hollow bass. The chord changes and reshuffles keep it interesting and fresh throughout and although short, it would get boring at any greater length.

Similar songs from the same artist to look out for: This artist is really house, its just that the remix is electro... You could take a look at "Carthago". However, all those who hate a lot of repetition, (myself included) should stay away, this guy is minimalist. I really only like the remix.

#16 - The Prodigy - Omen - Invaders Must Die

I know, I know, I did say that the charts hardly ever contain anything of worth but sometimes, good music just shines through! This may be an obvious choice but just because it's mainstream doesn't mean it isn't good. It has pretty much everything you need, A huge bass, repetitive lyrics and a kickass melody. Oh yeah, it also has a creepy exorcist girl with bells.

Similar songs from the same artist to look out for: Hell, if you're too cool for all this new stuff you could always try "Medusa's Path". Too cool for that? want to get into remix territory? Try "Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix)"

#15 - Architeq/Fulgeance - Birds Of Prey(Fulgeance Emotronical Remix) - Birds of Prey Versions - EP

These guys are relatively new to the Electro Scene but deserve their place as much as anyone else. They seem to have the strange ability to mix anything in there and still make it work... It's just so... bubbly :)

Similar songs from the same artist to look out for: They don't have much out yet, not even a first album, but you could take a listen to the 80s (and perhaps printer) inspired "Packard".

If you decide to make more, I'd like to see some blues, jazz or psychedelia.
