Does it shock you that games aren't losing money like every one else? I mean that means people(even in this time)will still spend money on a game. Do you think we should be ashamed of that fact?

Where have you been? most game companies have lost money. the only one that hasn't that I can think of off the top of my head is Activision-Blizzard, and that's because of WOWs rabid fanbase.

I think its fine that games and the industry itself is going up. More games, more development plans for games, its pretty nice and Im not ashamed. The only thing Im worried about is the companies whoring out franchises. *Glares with rage at RE5*

Is there anything wrong with putting entertainment before survival? I'd rather have a life for a month of fun than 10 years of boredom.

No, definitely not ashamed. It's a sign of the times that people are seeking relief in an increasingly depressing environment.

They really are more than just games today. There are some rather deep and complex stories to be told and adventures to be had. Certainly better than a lot of books I've read, that were somehow published.

Also, gaming is now a successful industry, whether some people like that or not. It makes money and it's growing exponentially, albeit that some companies are indeed suffering setbacks, but the industry altogether is certainly not faltering.. quite the opposite.

At least there are some industries marketing success.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing I've bought like 8 new games in the past week.I'm just asking should i feel like a total jerk about it?

No we shouldn't be ashamed. Gaming is an act of ESCAPI(ST)SM. Some people drink, some people cry, some put guns in their mouths; gamers choose to game. If anything we should be proud for keeping one part of the economy up at least.

On another note, you know what other industries are doing well? Firearms and alcohol. I suppose the guns were more because of fear of Obama "taking away our guns, badirk a dirk" but it demonstrates that different products fair differently in adverse market conditions.

it also seems to be a big negitive with players spending money on a used game that is a carbon copy of its predicesors and then to turn and blame the makers for the quality or lack there of.

I believe BioWare a few weeks ago was saying how they are still looking to hire more people.

But for the most part, games have been hurt greatly. Take-Two Interactive reported large losses last year, and I believe that EA has as well. There are very few developers that are not being hit by the recession.

Panem et circenses, buddy.

It's natural to want some distraction, especially in a time like this.
I'm not surprised nor ashamed.

The entertainment industry always thrives in times of hardship. It's the common man's only means of escaping the pressures of reality. Hollywood grew rather well after the Wall Street Crash compared to everywhere else, now it's gaming's turn. Besides, the gaming industry has the most creative people at the moment, most films are rehashes of very old stories.

Um yeah are you living under a rock? Midway Games (Mortal Kombat) is close to bankruptcy and is going to have to be taken over by Warner Brothers, the developers of "Prototype" are under an enormous amount of financial pressure. The gaming industry has been hit hard. Don't lie and don't start threads when you're clearly oblivious to the happenings in the world. The key word is RESEARCH!
