I just ordered the first volumes of each off amazon (Say You Want a Revolution and The Hard Goodbye). Depending on which one i like more i will probably buy that series first, even though i know i will eventually read both. So, which series do you all like most? Which one would you buy first and why?

Sin city has film noir cool dripping off it, but it deteriorates fast until the point where Frank Miller makes them either an unintentional spoof of the series or just plain unreadable.

As for The Invisibles, well it starts off slow, towards the end you won't have much of a clue what is going on until you read it a few times, but its by far the greater series overall. For this reason, I would choose The Invisibles.

Grant Morrison may be incomprehensible to some, but he still delivers some of the best stories out there and delivers more 'bang for your buck' as they say. Of the big name writers, he is the closest we will get to a visionary these days. Miller could only ever really do brooding, style and a bit of the old ultra violence. Today he is left nursing a decaying legacy, whilst Morrison is still blazing away.

Still, Miller delivered the immortal line 'I'm the goddamn Batman!' :D

Perhaps he still has something left.

Sin City rocks. One of the few American comics that I found it easy to get into. Plus the movie is one of the best I've ever seen.

Sin City has this noir feel to it that I found dark but brilliant, the stories are brilliantly told as they all interlap at some point or another, brilliant book IMO

Oh how I wish that were true these days ;D. Truth is most people won't have even heard of the Invisibles before you mentioned them, where as everyone has seen Sin City.

Want a more interesting opinion, I would go and check some comic book forums or look at reviews of the two series online. Get you a far more unbiased opinion, including my own, of which I'm well aware ;)

Ya i read Morrison's "The Filth" and that is one of my favorite graphic novels even though it is incredibly hard to understand. I liked that in The Filth and i hear The Invisibles is just as epic and deep and hard to understand, so i think i will like it better. But, i lvoe the Sin City movie so i feel equally attached to both serieses already. Also, i read the first issue of The Invisibles from Vertigo's website and i like it so far

It gets a lot better :D.

Is it that you only wish to order one or that, like normal people even before the economic slump, you have not nearly the money/desire to shell out that much cash?
