In the course of the past few months, more and more "MMO" titles have come out for the iPod Touch and iPhone. Now, in the beginning, these games were pretty cool. They became a free way to connect with other people and a way to blow off some steam at the end of the day.

Lately, however I feel that the Games Have become far too gimmicky. Within two days of Transformers 2 coming out, there were three "Robot Wars" games out there. Everybody and their dog has made a Mafia/Mob game, most being exact replicas of their predecessors, while innovation seems to be going out the window in favor of making a quick $.99 for more useless "Respect" Points.

So my question is this, does anybody still like the iPod MMO, or have you, like me, just simply decided to let them fade into their repetitive, unimaginative dooms.

Well not quite MMO's. You buy weapons and friend request people. After that, its basically just seeing who has more friends in a fight. Oh, and you don't see the fight. Just a screen that says if you won or lost.

was my response. Currently, I am not, and likely will never be, in support of an iPod MMO... although maybe that's because I do not, and likely never will, play any MMOs.

Didn't know there were MMOs for those. I remember someone was able to get World of Warcraft to function on an iPhone, but it was a hack, so I guess that doesn't count.

They are an epidemic. Here's a list of the ones I know of (off the top of my head):
iMob
iMafia
Mafia Wars
Mafia Live
Racing Live
Robot Wars
iVampires
Vampires
Zombies
I could continue, but seriously, what's the point?

i'm sick of all those games, i just got the first one i found and stuck with it (imob) but it's uselss becuase everyone just spams the add and spread numbers and jailbreaks their ipod to get ahead of everyone

and yes you're right there is way to many MMOs on the ipod, but that's becuase people realize it's an easy way to make money since somone will probably buy your points and your game (if they charged for the game).

I never have, and never will download an iPod MMO. They are all the same thing with different themes, and it gets really annoying to have to sort through them to find what you want.
Now Zenonia- that's a good game. It's not online, but it's an RPG, and a darn good one for the platform it's on. The only problem is the D-pad, and I'll deal with it just because the rest of the game is perfect.

They were a good time waster. Then I got annoyed because everyone made one. Then two. I wouldn't care so much if they were different, but they're just the same game with a different title.

I'm with you on that one. Zanonia is fun.

Man, while cool, that seems a little hard to wrap your head around. I mean you need a good chunk of time to grind in a mmo, not the few minute on the bus

These don't really feature grinding. The most you have to do is click a button and wait for an instant response. Quests are un-failable and fights take literally one second. Basically, the quickest way possible to get people to do something.

When put that way... Yeah sure I'd get it. Now if I only had a iPod... (mine broke)

You would get it, but which one. There are about 20, and finally finding one you like might take up a lot of your time and patience, not to mention precious memory.

I actually play Mafia Wars and really enjoy it.
I like the way you have to apply some logic to what you do instead of the run and gun strategy that most other games use.

I can't agree more I have noticed this to it's just a stupid way to try and sell apps. I believe it started with mafia games for a while and then they started doing armies, robots, heroes, pirates, ninjas, etc. But the worst part is it's all the same crappy game that get boring after a while.
