So we're at episode 7 so far, and it seems like there is an obscene amount of reviews floating around youtube and others.I haven't watched any of them, nor do I care. But I would like to know what the escapist thinks of Legend of Korra's metaphor driven conflict shenanigans.
That of course being:
Unalaq being the extreme of the Past, tradition and religion as well as a tyrannical government.
Verrik being the extreme of the future and progress and a super corrupt private enterprise.
and the main characters as well as the United Republic being them young folks and a new nation with a new leader stuck in the middle of it.
The interesting part is mostly the binary way the villains are revealed.
Unalaq is just too ominous, and then he invades the south
Verrik on the other hand is a goof, you'll probably figure him out by ep 3 just by what the deal with Unalaq was. Other than that, he insights was, tries to bribe a judge, ropes 3 other characters into subversion, propaganda and war profiteering all before they just spell if out that he's evil.
Quality of the show aside I think it's an interesting and relevant metaphor. How about you?
