So The other Xbox One poll got me thinking,

Are you planning on buying a PS4?
I am curious to see if more Escapists are planning on buying the PS4 than the Xbox one before E3, and also what the poll will look like AFTER E3.

Are you waiting for release titles? Price?

Are you a console gamer who likes to have both consoles? (for exclusives)

Are you a PC gamer who just wants a PS4 for exclusives? (or to play with friends)

Myself:
I prefer xbox, but I had a PS3 for exclusives like Uncharted, God of war and Killzone. I am excited to see what happens at E3, and if it looks cool and has good exclusives, then I will probably spring for it.

EDIT:

As of 6/10/13

-399$ Price point
-no daily check in, unlimited offline play
-NO USED GAME RESTRICTIONS

What do you think?

I'm still waiting for other announcements, but in the current state of things, I will have no problem switching from Microsoft to Sony for this generation.

They can have their head in the right place all they want, and scream from the mountains that the PS4 will e about games, and that's all well and good.

But they need to have games I actually want to play.

If they could get 3-4 games I felt I need to play, then they'd probably secure a console purchase from me.

Don't know anything about it yet.

Either way, I would only be buying it after it has a good few games that I can't play on my PC.

For me, it's simply a matter of what I can and cannot justify to put up with. The plain and simple fact is that I'm addicted to games, and will be for the rest of my life. I'm going to get my fix - it's just a matter of who can better supply.

I just can't justify the Xbone though. Not with it's anti-consumer culture, and strong focus on the larger TV audience as opposed to the gaming audience. To the Xbone, gamers are just a demographic that needs to be serviced, like movie and music streaming, and milked dry for everything they're worth.
It's not about making the best games, or providing the best versions of multi-platform games. It's about getting as many people as possible to buy the console, regardless of the quality of service decline due to the dilution of the device's focus.

So, the Wii U or the Playstation 4 are my only real choices. And, while Nintendo games are awesome, I already own a 3DS and I get more than enough of my Nintendo-fix on it. So, Playstation 4 get's my business by simply showing up.
In order to lose me as a customer at this point, they'd have to have a disastrous E3 press conference - worse than the Xbone reveal by an order of magnitude.

I'm still undecided pending further announcements, but I'm leaning towards yes. So long as Sony doesn't come out with some bullshit DRM scheme before the console launches, or decides that the PS4 can't played used games, or decides to take ANY cues from microsoft whatsoever, I'll be on board with it.

I'm mostly a PC gamer anyway, so I'll probably wait a year or three for some good games (that I can't get on PC) to motivate me, but I'll probably get one eventually. Unless they pull a Microsoft, of course.

Where is 'No, I'm going to buy a PC instead this generation'?

An option that should be hilariously popular what with all the people asking for PC building advice these days.

I suppose I will end up owning a PS4 at some point, but I am waiting for the right games to be announced first. The doubtful European releasenhasnto be confirmed before I get one and then I probably wont get one before that game is released. Yeah, I'm talking about the Tales series.

I've been with Sony every step of the way. So, eventually I will have a PS4 and a Vita (which went from "maybe" to "yes" as soon as I learned Vita would work with almost every PS4 game).

And really, my loyalty is only for their exclusive IPs, which I find pretty rockin'. Anything else good about them is just icing on the cake.

I'm waiting until the next-gen PC is announced. The developers have been pretty quite about it since the 90s but I'm sure it will be coming this year. Rumour has it it will be called the PCOne, which unfortunately sounds like pee cone.

Yes. But not at launch.

And I will probably freak out if they make PSN not-free to play online.

No... but maybe yes.

Last gen I found both he PS3 and the Xbox 360 to be basically the same thing (the PS360), with only the wii trying to look genuinely different form the group by doing it's own thing.[small]please note that does not mean I liked the wii most, it was actually 3rd on my list for other reasons[/small]. I always like console races better when there is a HUGE distinction between the competitors, and I just don't see it with Microsoft and Sony. Granted, I'll start seeing it soon if Sony finally confirms that they allow used games and you don't need to use the eyetoy 100% of the time. But if they really are being tight lipped about that stuff because they do have the same stance as Microsoft, then they really are just the same all over again. If they prove they are genuinely different, I will considering getting a PS4 one day. As of right now, I am happy with my wiiU, and extremely excited to see the games they said they would announce at E3.

I'll most likely end up getting one, but it'll be after I know the pricing info... That'll determine whether I'll wait for more games or if it's good enough value already. Either way, my WiiU is already serving my gaming needs very well.

I won't be getting it on launch, I want to know what games are coming out and any sneaky features they didn't announce.

I will wait and see. Like MS Sony hasn't shown anything to me that breaks the deal nor sells the console.
But I'm looking forward to the mayhem when Sony too binds games to an account. Because I'm very much expecting them to do so.

I have all consoles from this generation and quite a few from previous ones. For next generation (PS4/XBone/WiiU) the PS4 is a guarentee buy and the Wii U is a "Will probably get but not just yet". The XBone was DOA and will not be making an appearance at all in my collection regardless of games made exclusive.
