As most gamers might know, EA is in a bit of a financial clusterf*ck right now. After the cancellation of 12 unannounced titles and the closing down of Pandemic, CEO John Riccetelo has gotten into this mess by somewhat of his own issues. The question is, which one of these financial and gaming acquisitions got him in this mess the most. Do you think that the excessive ammount of New IPs (Intellectual properties) such as Dead Space and Mirror's Edge might have given EA a large ammount of critical success but weak sales? Do you think to many poorly done New IPs, like the arguable financial bust that was Army of Two, made EA had to cut back on certain developer costs? Do you think the diminishing sales of some of its major franchises such as Madden and Need For Speed has made it lose a major part of its purchasing install base? Or is it the excessive ammount of developer acquisitions such as Pandemic and Bioware that it purchased that caused a large sum of money to be lost right from the start?

I personally didn't know they were in that much of a problem, well i knew they had problems but not excessive ones.

Though it's likely going to be the new IPs the fact is that they needed them as you have pointed out the old franchises are going tits up. The money they could have used is as of now not there as they have brought more franchises and it will take time for these to roll over cash.

Thats just a big guess i just made. In my pants...

I believe they overspread themeselves. Dozens of studios, scores of franchises that have different fans and needs. Bones have a certain tensile stregnth, and if they have to support too much wait they will collapse (sorry Godzilla). Something similar has happened to EA.

EA wastes money like no one's business. I live in Vancouver and they have an HQ here where they built the most expensive Recording Studio in the province (there are many recording studios in here too, owned by a lot of rich big wigs like Bryan Adams). Anyhow, after completion of the project, they realised it was cheaper to use other studios so it has sat at their HQ unused since completion. They don't even rent it out.

All I know is that they are not very good at making things that I want to buy. From a business perspective, I get the impression that their marketing is terrible and they spend too much money to do everything. They got away with this, or perhaps became like this, when a few of their titles were big annual sellers on the PS2.

I'm not saying they've been making that many bad games; To be truthful, many of the New IPs have been giving them critical acclaim with the exception of certain financial busts *cougharmyoftwocough*.

They're financially troubled?? I thought they'd be doing quite well, considering they've got a good formula for making money, girls and Sims3. In the past you bought discs loaded with new furniture, now you buy each piece of furniture online individually, works out more expensive.

The only EA game I've ever owned is Battlefield 2. That was fun.
