I remember seeing the very first trailer and article about the Wolf Among Us when it first came out. At first glance, I didn't think it was going to be nearly as masterful as Walking Dead was. I loved the Walking Dead to its essence. I finished both seasons the day the last episodes came out. The Wolf Among us originally didn't appear to be as good, simple as that.
However, I saw a video trailer and an acquaintance of mine praised the game up and down saying that the game is just as good if not better than the Walking Dead. I found that hard to believe.

Nevertheless, it has "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews on Steam, and I am curious if it is worth the 22.99 euros. If I got the game, I would be expecting a gritty, unforgiving detective choice making game. Never played something like that before. Perhaps I'm just being unnecessarily skeptical. What do you say, escapists?

I dunno about "highly, highly recommend it", but if you don't mind those kind of games then it's well worth a look.

I was initially put off by the premise (fairly tale characters living in the modern world), but bought it on Telltale's pedigree and was pleasantly surprised.

Its really enjoyed it, not on the same level as the The Walking Dead season one but still pretty darn good regardless and heck, it got me into the Fables comic series which is easily one of the best reads I've had in a long while.

Give it a go, if you enjoy Telltale games you definitely won't regret getting this, its one of their better games imo.

Well, if you liked the Walking Dead games, you're probably gonna like The Wolf Among Us. There's less of an emotional current running through it, instead going for a cool, spooky noir feel. And Bigby is just a sexy badass.

It's very, very good. If you liked Walking Dead, chances are this will tick many of the same boxes.

I downloaded the first episode when it was free (not sure if it still is?) and it sat in my games queue for months. "Meh", I thought, "can't say no to a free game, but it looks kind of weird and silly." If I could go back in time I'd slap myself. The premise of the game sounds like a recipe for a nonsensical and unengaging experience but in practice it's the exact opposite: it's a well-crafted world with believable characters and for the most part it's incredibly compelling. I played most of the episodes as they were released, i.e. alternating with Walking Dead Season 2, and I've got to admit I found myself getting more excited about TWAU than TWD.

Bottom line: if you liked Walking Dead, I would find it very difficult to conceive of a situation where you don't like Wolf Among Us. If they're still offering the first episode for free download go ahead and do that, and if not, I can assure you it's worth the 22 Euros. Happy gaming, this may be the best game you play in 2014 :)

I wouldn't highly recommend it but if you liked the TWD games, you'll like this. It's not as good but it's still pretty fun. Although I'd say hold off buying it as the Hallowe'en sales is coming up soon and it might go on sale during that.

Yeah it's pretty good.

The art's unique, the concept is fresh, the voice acting is great, the action is good albeit limited, and the characters all good and all, but I'd say it's not a game for everyone. If you like the Walking Dead then go ahead and get it all.

If you're getting cold feet, get only the first episode and play that. I thought it was a good slice of what it's about.

I feel I should be the counter to the people saying it's not as good as The Walking Dead by clarifying that if you're in the games for "the feels", then The Wolf Among Us won't give you the same level of emotional attachment that The Walking Dead could. But personally, I enjoyed it more than The Walking Dead because the setting was far more interesting to me.

It's not particularly unforgiving, either. I'm not even sure how easy it is to actually fail. Probably roughly on par with The Walking Dead in that regard, but the conversations are engaging in a different way because of that detective element.

If you're referring to Steam, I can't find the "Play just the first episode" button.
Unless you could kindly show me otherwise, I don't believe that is an option anymore.

I started wolf among us and LOVED IT! I love cute things turned dark, just look at my avatar have had for 99.9% of my time here.

Off the back of that I went to walking dead and thought it was boring, so it might be a case of what you have started with.

The only small complaint I have about the series is, it's not as Sherlock Holmes as I wanted it to be. In the first part, you find things like a blood stain and you say "it's still wet, must have happened recently" and a piece of torn fabric ... but then all that stops. So, it's not so much about piecing clues together in that sense, it's more about putting 2 and 2 together in your own head about who the evidence points to.

Less point and click adventure and more choose your own adventure book (you know, "turn to page X for this and Y for that").

Being a fantasy murder mystery it definitely has a different tone from The Walking Dead, but I still quite enjoyed it. If you like that style of story-telling I'd say it's worth checking out at least.

I loved it, especially the first and third episode. The second one is a little awkward, and the fourth one is obvious build-up for the conclusion - but since you'll get to play them all in one sitting, that probably shouldn't be as much of a bother. I heavily recommend it.

I think it's definitely better than at least Season 2 of The Walking Dead, the choices definitely have more relevance than in that game, in any case the writing is also a lot better than Season 2 of TWD[footnote]But the writing for that was all over the place.[/footnote], in any case it's pretty good, if you like Noir stories the you should definitely play it, interesting characters, good mistery, cool twists, it's pretty good, to be honest I can't really decide if I like TWD more or Wolf Among Us, they are pretty close in quality to one another, Wolf Among Us has a lot more action though.

Well, I liked it enough to play through it twice in a row, so there's that.

Really, when compared to The Walking Dead, it just feels so different, it's hard to say where it shines. I think by being a murder mystery story, you are given a little more freedom to choose who to be and how to change the narrative with your choices. When I finished the first season of The Walking Dead, I couldn't get myself to go back and play it. I made my choices for survival, and I probably wouldn't change them much at all. That save file was my story, and playing it again wouldn't actually change anything because I did everything I could to make the right decisions. The Wolf Among Us has no right decisions, just decisions. It made for better replay value for me.

I admired other aspects of the game too. The graphics engine is beautiful. Any time a shadow intersects a dark line, it inverts itself to a light line, which really drives home the comic book feel of the game. There were also a few fantastic twists that have left me waiting for the next in the series.

I loved it. I have been a Fables fan for a while so the chance to play as Bigby Wolf was ano brainer for me.

If it help you deside most people say it is as good as The Walking Dead but I can't comment on that as I have never played it and never will. I find stuff with Zombies really boring.

Sure, I'd highly recommend it. Best praise I can give the Wolf Among Us is that it was good enough to have gotten me to look up its source material and get into the Fables comics it's based on despite not having had any serious interest in comics in years.

Oh hey, are they any good?

I was kind of curious myself, but I thought it might be like Telltales Walking Dead where the game is better than the source material.

They are good but have a different tone, the first five issues that make the first chapter are the ones that have more in common with the game where Bigby is solving a crime, after that its more character driven and goes around a lot of different situations mostly even out of Fabletown.

It also plays a lot with itself, Goldilocks is heavily into bestiality and fights for the freedom of the animals for example.

But in the end, if you want more Bigby then the comics are a good place to go since he and snow white are the main focus (even if at times they arent talked about as much)

I'd recommend it, but I wouldn't highly highly recommend it. It's more or less on the level of TWD Season 2--it's not some revelation to the industry, but it's still a Telltale game.
