OK here's the deal. Boys get the p*ss taken out of them if they choose to "dress up" in girl's clothing. However girls can wear men's clothing yet no-one says a word. Is this because people dont notice? Or because they dont care?

My partner hates the two t-shirts his mum bought him for xmas, and since they're really nice tops, and really expensive, I said i'd wear them. Personally I LOVE THEM! To me, they look no different to the girl's tops that I normally wear, except that the glitter pattern isnt made up of sparkly flowers/love hearts/cute animals etc lol.

I often borrow his stuff (including his jeans which are too small for him) and dont care less who notices. I know i'm not some "butch" lesbian, and if lads want to dress in girls clothes for whatever reason they do it for, I certainly dont look upon them as gay.

So why the hell shouldnt we wear what we feel comfy in (or at least around the house since I cant deny that a lad running around the shops in a dress would probably have me in stitches)?

A) should people be aloud to dress up in what they want?
B) if not, why

EDIT: personally, I think I look good in his stuff (he thinks so to lol)

Personally, I'm all for anyone wearing whatever the hell they want to wear, as long as they aren't exposing too much of themselves.
Hell, I sometimes wear a stab-proof vest. That can hardly be said to be normal female clothing.
Luckily, armour tends not to be categorised into female and male stuff >.>
I so need to start customising my armour...

There's no real reason why clothes need to be gender-specific, it's purely a social issue. I'm personally not bothered by what you wear...with the exception of children dressed like strippers, but that's another issue entirely.

I admit I would find it a little odd to have a male friend turn up in a skirt without a costume-party justification, but I wouldn't hold it against him. Girls in boy's clothing I see a lot though, I find no issue with it. Hell, I think it can look better than the typically 'girly' outfits. Then again, a girl in a kilt may be a little strange at first too.

I guess it works both ways, but I don't see any personal issues either way.

I think one of the main reasons girls wear guy's clothing and guy's don't generally wear girl's clothing is because clothing traditionally worn by men is more comfortable and utilitarian than women's clothing. Women's clothing is designed to make people look "good", whereas guy's clothing is designed for everyday activities and moving about. If a guy wants to wear a dress, I say let him, but it just seems like an inconvenience. Why would you ever go out wearing something without pockets?

EDIT: I think it may be worth mentioning that I find a girl wearing jeans and a hoodie infinitely more attractive than one in a formal dress. It might have something to do with that being what I almost always wear.

Thing is most "guys" clothes are unisex. Guts wear trousers, so do girls. But kirts are womens clothes. Women can get away with it because trousers arent limited to one ender. Skirts on the other hand just are, dont know why, dont care, but they are.
A hundred years ago, you'd have been laughed out of the room for saying that men's clothes are unisex.

Just goes to show, really.

I find a lot of function in a single piece of clothing, and I can let my legs breathe with this one. The Utilikilt. Durable, open air, containing pockets. Too bad they're so expensive I won't ever get a pair.

I guess I'll just walk around without pants when I'm alone. It is the only time when I'm truly happy.

One of my friends has a utilikilt. He wears it frequently, and makes everyone jealous.

My sister treats my wardrobe as an extension of her own. I thought all girls were more or less like this- I always assumed that the stigma only applied to males wearing female clothing.

Now, I would love to be "allowed" that, just once, without the very real threat of being stabbed on the way to school. Dresses are cool.

Where was I? Oh, right. I think people need to stop caring what the fuck other folk wear- it makes absolutely no difference. If I put on a fabulous pair of heels, I don't lose my black-and-grey outlook on life, or my pokemon fanboyism. I am not estranged from my family, or an animal lover if I wear pink one day- I remain as I am, regardless of fashion sense. *That* should be what matters.

This is different to male transvestites.
This is because boys clothing can be worn as girls clothing since they are both very similar e.g many girls wear genes and shirts.
Yet men are never seen casually wearing dresses and I feel that clothing such as dresses are ONLY for girls, this is why it is fine for girls to wear boys clothes and vise versa as long as the man isn't wearing something formal like a bra, knickers or dress/skirt.

Iam just a sweet transvestite.

Okay now I got that out of the way. Girls don't "cross dress" really. There are female jeans, T shirts etc. Basicly everything a guy can get females get their own version. It's just guys don't get versions of what females get like dresses, high heels & skirts(okay kilts if you want to count them)etc.

Go ahead. I find *there* is something bizarrely sexy about females in mens clothing.
Hear, hear!
Also, I think it should be socially acceptable for men to wear womens clothing too. Or just make every kind of clothing unisex. Which is sort of the same thing when it comes down to it. The clothes don't even need to change that much, just add a lable saying "unisex" to every piece if clothing. I think it'll make it more acceptable.

If a man can make women's clothing work, then more power to 'm.

The problem as I see it though, is that women's clothing are usually designed to accentuate the female form. And this makes the majority of transvestites Iv'e seen look like brutish scoccer moms.

Well, I reckon guys look better wearing 'male clothes' and girls look better wearing 'female clothes'. Note I mean these as in male clothing being more masculine, and female clothing being more feminine, not specifically the 'gender ideal' that most take my words to mean.

Otherwise though, I reckon anyone should be allowed to wear whatever they want, as long as it's in the realm of common decency. Hell, I'll admit that when I was younger, in my mid-teenage years, I experimented a little with crossdressing, wearing my mum's stuff when she was out of the house (secretly, of course). I don't do it now, but even so, the idea that people should be limited to a narrow constraint in what is considered 'decent' or socially acceptable is just a close-minded and silly idea, I think. If a girl wants to wear mens clothing, then more power to her. And if a guy decides he wants to wear a dress or a skirt and stockings to go out, then again, more power to him. As I say, I find women wearing feminine clothing more attractive, and men wearing masculine clothing more attractive (not in that way, I'm comfortable enough with my sexuality that I can safely think a guy looks hot without having to fancy him...). But that doesn't mean people shouldn't be allowed to wear what they want.
