Poll: Trying to figure out which smartphone to get

Hey guys i'm currently trying to figure out which phone to get as my first smartphone. I've always been able to afford one, I've just never felt the need to have one since recently.
So I'm asking you people out there who own smartphones(perhaps even the ones I'm considering) which would be the prefereable choice.

- HTC Desire S
or
- LG Optimus 2x

I'm aware that the Lg is techincally better, but it's also more expensive. It's roughly the equivalent of 30-40$.

I generally don't have a need to be ahead of the curve on technology, though I prefer to buy things which are somewhat future-proof. The better camera doesn't mean much to me since I already own a perfectly good camera.

just thought I'd like to get a few suggestions

I own an HTC Desire HD and they are basically on par with iPhones.. if that's anything to go by. I'm not sure about the quality of the LG but i can definitely root for the HTC. It's a very good phone indeed.

What ever uses the Droid OS, LG is a better brand in general but I don't know enough about the phones themselves to give a real opinion on it

I'm using an older LG Optimus (the GT540) and it holds up pretty well. Got it for just shy of a hundred quid and I'm quite happy with it. That said if I had the money to get a more up to date phone I'd go for either the HTC or the new Sony Ericsson one.

I'd say out of those two the Desire is the one I'd go for. I have a few friends with them and they work well and are really well constructed.

I personally use the Samsung Galaxy though, and with the S2 coming out that might be worth a look in.
