So, random one. Which d'you prefer- can be in any genre, or anything- turn based or realtime combat?

Personally, I can't stand Turns on anything but gameboys, but that's me!

I agree, I don't really feel that I am participating in the fight unless I am madly pressing buttons trying to get the right combos. Anything else is anti-climactic!

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one. :) Turns just seem to be a stalling action, to me.

I'm one of those people who loves turn based. I guess it's more of a strategy vs adrenaline issue. I like to take my time and plot out the best strategy to take down my opponent.

Well, since I'm a Mac user, and since I DO have a GBA, I'd go with turn-based.
Strategies for RTS's tend to be pretty simplistic.
Of course, I prefer chess or go to either of these choices...

this coming from the girl with tifa as her avatar..Turnbased for RPG's anyway, and some statergies.. realtime combat imo ruined the rpg with a few RARE exceptions. yea yea blah blah move forward. I get it. But gimme a compelling story, interesting characters (Modern rpg's BIGGEST FLAW), and some old school classic controls...pssshh im all over it.

For the most part, I agree. I love the Fire Emblem and Advance Wars games for the DS/Gameboys. I did play FE: Path of Radiance for the GameCube but it just doesn't have the same feel. I like not having to keep constant attention on it. That ability doesn't really translate onto a console turn-based game. I think you should put a Both option in the poll. I really play both and I'd choose that over one or the other.

Wow...
Did I miss the memo, or is it just coincidence that today seems to be Revenge of the versus threads?

I have fond feelings for both.
Turn based gives my dumbass brain enough time to actually think about what I'm doing, but real time looks better.

Both.

Turn based allows for a more tactical approach, whereas Realtime delivers the action in a quick, energy-packed punch of awesome.

It depends on my mood. I enjoy both Fire Emblem and Fallout, so... Need a both option here, OP!

My friends all whine that I'm too slow when I versus them on turn-based strategy games.
Maybe because I have the time to carefully consider my every move and its effects, I use it.

I have to with realtime.
Forces you to make split-second decisions or die sitting with a great plan but no time to act on them.

Turn based was awesome in fallout 1 & 2 (decent in 3) but except those games i always prefer realtime.

Hang on, I have to wait for my time meter to fill...

Okay, I don't like turn-based combat, with the exception of strategy games.

I think they are both good at different things although some games have gotten better at introducing a pause function to incorporate good aspects of both.

I see turn based combat more strategic while I see real time combat more on power plays

Well my avatar actually comes from the movie, I don't really like the games because of the turn based combat . . . but Tifa still kicks ass, so I wanted her as my avatar :)

Real-time games emphasize action, reflexes, and good timing. Turn-based games focus on thinking, planning, and strategy. What's the problem with either of those? Picking one over the other sounds remarkably shallow. And pathetic. And obnoxious. I don't know, pick any of those adjectives. If it makes for a good game, then it won't matter.
