The other day I was pretty bored, so I decided to rent Turok for the weekend. I was interested in it when it came out, but never got around to playing it until now. Not gonna lie, I like it. I'd compare it to Black in the sense that it's just mindless fun. The multiplayer is really well done, even though no one plays it anymore ^_^

Did you play it? What do you think of it?

I did not because... *Deep breath*
TUROK SHOULD NOT BE A SPACE MARINE EVER!!! HE IS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN A NATIVE AMERICAN, TIME-TRAVELING WARRIOR, CRAZY GUNS ARE VERY IMPORTANT AND QUICK-TIME EVENTS ARE STUPID, MAKE THE GAME RIGHT AND STOP RIPPING OFF HALO BECAUSE MOST GAMERS WHO PLAYED FPS GAMES ON THE N64 HATE HALO! START OVER AND TRY AGAIN!

I thought it was quite rubbish Turok is supossed to be a time traveling red indian running around killing robot dinosaurs with crazy weapons and instead they made some boring macho men with boring standard military firearms walking around a jungle that didn't hide the fact it was a corridor very well

When I played the demo, I was entertained by the knife mechanics, but I figured that the extent of the game was played in the demo so I didn't buy it.

It disappointed me greatly!.. It just felt crappy and unfinished. It was an average shooter that someone decided to tack the Turok name so scam a few fans (like me!!) into wasting $100. Considering Turok: Rage Wars is one of my favourite games I feel this latest instalment pretty much just shit on the fans, murdered the franchise that birthed it and then rolled over and died.

EDIT: Oh yeah and then I kicked it a few times too.

They took an interesting concept and turned in into a generic Halo-ish marine fest.

I haven't played it and I don't know if it's any fun (I haven't heard good things). But I'm not going to get it mostly because of the principle of the thing. It just another example of some of the worst aspects of the industry i.e. No one has the balls do something different.

^^This^^

Except that I was never a Turok fan and just rented it to try out an FPS with my friends. We returned it early.

The game would've been more enjoyable if they hadn't put the Turok name on it.

Still wouldn't have been impressive. It was kind of dull.

I actually really enjoyed it. It just needed dinosaurs though to get me to buy it. The knife mechanics were really cool and I love QTE's with awesome action scenes accompanying them. So yeah, I liked it.

I had it, I enjoyed it. About 3 months later, I forgot it even existed. Terrible storyline, but not a bad game in itself.

It was complete rubbish in my opinion. It was way to generic and the only remotely interesting weapon was the bow, even though there was almost no use for it. Also some of the boss fights were way to insanely hard.
For example: When you have to run back to your base to get more rockets to blow up the spider tank. There was no where to hide when it did fire, and it was almost impossible to dodge. I got my balls blown off every time.

I was hoping I wouldn't have to go into this cold. Almost everyone in this thread have complained that it was bad because it wasn't like the others in the series. When discussing a game you need to actually discuss the game's own merits rather than just continuously saying "It's shit because it is about space marines". This is just a part of the Halo effect. I haven't played any of the Turok games, but this thread is almost entirely pointless if nobody actually discusses the game itself. Its fine to compare to previous games in a series but just because something is different doesn't mean it is bad.

Although I will add that I think that the original turok games had a better premise.

It's not bad because it's different, per se. Zelda: Majora's Mask was very different from the rest of the Zelda series for example, yet people still like it. It's mainly because it's actually a rather mediocre, generic game.

I played the game and found it quite awful... The level design was one of the worst I have ever seen, gameplay was wholly unsatisfying, and the whole thing seemed very bland. Couldn't bring myself to keep playing after the first few hours.

Everything that made the N64 Turok games good was absent. The rich, explorable environments which would later carry over into Retro's Metroid Prime games are gone, replaced by generic same-y crap you see in every FPS.

This could have been okay, because there's still a certain camp value to "First Person Shooter with dinosaurs!", but the game doesn't seem to be self-aware enough to actually have fun with this concept and instead just follows every boring FPS trope, to the point where you almost forget that dinosaurs factor into the equation.
