The games FIFA 12 and the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus HD remake bundle have come out today, and some acquaintances of mine have been greatly expressing their interests in FIFA 12, but completely ignoring ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. When I brought up these games, they asked me if I was serious and then proceeded to make fun of my taste of games.

So after this, I was thinking about asking you fellow Escapists what game you're most excited for today. I am personally more interested in ICO and Shadow of the Colossus (haven't played either of them and I plan on getting the Last Guardian), and I am indifferent to the FIFA series. The games are fun to play, but not very interesting, as it's just soccer to me.

Please provide reasons for your answer.

not interested in either
because i never played ICO or the other one (also because i don't think it's a 360 game)
and because money is tight as fuck right now.

ICO and SotC, nostalgia wins that discussion for me. And to be honest, I've never played FIFA, even though I like soccer, and I'm not a fan of sports games.

ICO and SotC, but then again i've never been much of a soccer fan and have been about as verbal as you can be on my views of it and its "popularity".

Plus I enjoyed them the first time around, and since my PS3 isnt BC, I;ll need to get them to play.

By that logic all Call of Duty players should enlist. Good one...

But in order to answer the OP's question, you're kind of giving the answer yourself. If you're not a big football fan, just get the other one.

so anytime someone plays a shooter game they should just go outside and shoot someone instead?

wonderful logic is wonderful.

OT: Neither actually, any sports game i like is usually a mario sports game or one of the "street" versions, nba street 2 for gamecube is the fucking shit, compared to all the garbage they re-release every year.

and SotC just wasn't for me...never tried ICO tho.

I believe his point is that football is something one would normally do in real life that is beneficial to their health (generally). Shooting people, however, is not. At least, not in the 'go to prison for life' aspect.

while that is a fair enough opinion, i just hate when people immediately look down on a video game because it is an actual sport in the real world outside of video games. That doesn't deter the video game from being fun.

I hate baseball in real life, i think it is extremely boring and refuse to watch it on TV, but that doesn't stop me from loving mario baseball to bits.

I'm a lot more excited about shadow of the colossus / ico. I'll definitely get them once the price drops a bit.

Also, as far as soccer games go, I've always gotten a lot more out of the Winning 11 series rather than Fifa. I haven't played Winning 11 in the current gen, but I played it some for PS2, and it was pretty awesome. I think it may be missing some of the leagues Fifa has, but it's a game with a lot more depth IMHO.

I quote Yahtzee "REAL GAMERS HAVE NO FRIENDS"

so screw your friends and go buy Ico and Shadow of Colossus

I bought Ico and Shadow of Colossus and God of War origins today for $60 (at best buy if you're interested).

can't wait to play over the weekend.

I doubt I'm picking up either, as I'm not a fan of soccer, never played ICO, and played SotC for like an hour then decided it was a bit overhyped, great game to be sure, but not as great as everyone makes it out to be.

I want to apologize ahead of time for being heavily biased... but did you just ask which was the better choice out of a sports game and Ico + Shadow of the Colossus, considered two of the most creative games ever made?

I trust my point was made.

You realize that playing a football/soccer videogame is much different from actually playing football/soccer, right?
Yes, real football is a lot more fun to play.

Saw this coming guess I should have dressed it in my first post, first off you can't draw that parallel between football and going to war and say it´s the same thing, clearly it´s not T.T"
second off as with most sports game they are A LOT more fun and not too expensive to just play the physical version of it(exception would be racing games and other equipment heavy sports) which was the point I was trying to make...

For what it's worth, the FIFA games are the only time I ever had any actual fun playing sprots titles. They're pretty entertaining.

Aren't Fifa games all basically the same game with no originality, the only difference being the number has gone up by one.
