Can you pass it? [http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/blog/quiz/2011/oct/11/uk-citizenship-test-quiz]

In case you didn't know, to gain citizenship in the UK you have to take a short test about British culture and history, the above link is adapted from a practice version. Do you think that it's too harsh? What would you change about it, if anything? Did you get the trick-or-treat question right?

Also post your scores. I failed with 15/24, even though I'm a citizen by birth :(

EDIT: Only 7% of the escapist has managed to pass, that's 18 out of 291 so far.

EDIT2: That's gone down to 6%, 768 have failed, only 48 have passed. UK citizens seem to be doing marginally better.

Failed, that was a ****ing hard test, I was guessing the majority. Wasn't expecting the question "Why was a recruitment agency set up in 1950's in the West Indies", nor do I understand how knowing that makes me British

I'm a UK citizen and I failed, though these questions seem largely arbitrary, I feel sorry for anyone having to wade through this bullshit to get citizenship.

The test is pretty stupid all in honesty. All it does is test a person's abiliy to learn trivia, not test how much of a citizen they are. Would be funny but there will be lives that could be changed drastically due to a test like this.

Trivia about Brtish history does not equal British Citizenship. The test is bad and it should feel bad.

That said I'm not sure what else they can do, if they feel they need a 'UK Citizenship test' I have no real idea what questions should be asked....just that the questions in the example show what shouldn't be asked. So it appears to be a bad execution to a flawed idea.

You scored 6 out of a possible 24.

Some of these questions are total bull though.

5 is wrong and open to interpretation.
6 is wrong.
8 open and wrong.
11 - no-one cares.
12 is wrong
14 includes the right answers, and is wrong.
21 is wrong
24 is wrong

The rest tend to rely on verbatim regurgitation. Like Crop Rotation in the 14th Century.

16/24 (fail), British citizen.

Most of those questions are pretty irrelevant. I would actually dispute some of the answers - there are 650 constituencies last time I checked...

I remember reading some sample questions on this a while back as well, and some of those answers were wrong.

Damn, that was a hard quiz. Got 8/24 :/ My knowledge of the Premier League did not help me here one bit.

I got 11/24, but I'm not a UK citizen either. (That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.) I was guessing wildly at most of them...

Well, I got 11/24, so I failed. Problem is, -IM- -FUCKING- -BRITISH- so how in the universe is the quiz supposed to work? "you're not a UK citizen unless you know about historical and pollitical trivia"?? Christ, I can't be the only one who feels like smacking the PM in the face with a shovel for attempting somthing this dumb.

Rubbish, rubbish test. I got 14/24. This really is a bunch of useless trivia which will not help one iota in deciding which immigrants are suitable. If someone who's lived in Britain all their life, who knows alot about British history, is stumped by a dumb quiz like this, then what hope does anyone else have?

How in hell did you manage that? I've got to agree with the test being a bad idea, going on the results so far.

This amused me :D the questions could be written better, the Halloween one in particular seemed misleading. There's got to be something wrong with it if UK citizens are taking this test and getting scores you'd get if you answered every question randomly.

Partly due to studying history at uni and being interested in politics, got a few from that. But mostly due to sheer luck I assume, many I just guessed and seem that the god of the UK Citizenship test smiled upon me. As of writing this I'm the only one to pass so far, shows how stupid it is. I take no pride in passing a studpid test by fluke.

If it makes you feel any better, I got 9/24, and I'm British. :(
