Often credited as the original cheat code, the "Konami Code" first appeared in the game Gradius, giving the player the majority of power-ups available. It was later made famous in the game Contra, giving the player 30 extra lives. It now has appeared in countless different video games, and is well known among the gaming community.

Now I want to ask you, what is your all-time favorite cheat code from a game?

I always had a soft spot for the cheat which unlocks the use of cheats in Jedi Knight 2. Helpusobi 1.

I use them for the extent of fun 80% of the time. On some of the old GTA games when I was younger, I used to use cheats out of habit.

Single player games only. So for me, pretty much only TES games, and even then sparingly.

I always liked the original Doom god mode cheat, just because of the guys face after you put it in. Glowing Raiden eyes for the winner!!

I personally enjoy the cheat on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which turns all the enemies you kill into tires. ^^

Does using the internet for information for rare items collectible etc. count as cheat codes?

Favorite... I'll go with the Plus Program from the Armored Core series you lose 50,000 credits (or 50-100k in Armored Core 2)and your forced to start the game from the start but with certain limits broken to allow you to control like some of the tougher A.I. Ravens you face later in the game.

Plus, it carries other to the follow up games AC1 = Project Phantasma & Master of Arena and AC2 = Another Age

There was one mission in heavy gear 2 that was broken, I used a cheat code to just skip it.

I mechwarrior 2 I'd use the cheat code for infinite ammo 'cause I liked watching enemies crumble under prolonged bursts from my AC-20s.

I put my vote for the last. Cheats can be immensely fun but they do detract from the initial experience. For example, my recent re-installation of Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn gave me the chance to try a few. I wound up with a party including Jon Irenicus, 3 Beholders and the Slayer, along with the main character. It was badass as hell.

Only in a game where I want to have no consequence. For example, I like the challenge in GTAIV, so I'm cheatless. However, playing Saints Row 2 calls for unstoppable destruction, and thus I go cheat crazy.
